Virgil Donati is, in my opinion, pushing boundaries. Here is a track from his 2019 album "Ruination." Also, his 2013 release "In This Life" is still musically ahead of its time.

The Panzerballett track is big fun.
I find Heilung pretty unique and innovative. They are around for 10 years or so now though, and don't have prog credentials. But they're progressive.  The paradox of prog is that fitting too comfortably into any existing genre boundaries (and be it prog) is the opposite of progressive.Edited by Lewian - 4 hours 9 minutes ago at 08:56 |

No question! I used to ponder about what would happen if former band-members would form King Crimson satellite projects, there have been a few attempts (Stick Men, 21st Century Schizoid Band, even League of Craft Guitarists and CA Guitar Trio), and this is the closest I've seen! I think this is MUCH more vital than what Yes is doing (touring with "Fragile"). I just don't have the interest to pay to go see Steve Howe's tribute band. Gong recently came to Tucson, I didn't see them but am sorry I didn't! I did see them twice in two nights in Chicago (March 9 & 10, 1996), and guitarist Steffe Sharpstrings did a GREAT job of filling in for Steve Hillage AND High T Moonweed! His solo space-rock is highly recommended! I consider it quite new and refreshing! Steffe Sharpstrings |
