Maybe, but still a terribly techno-poppy affair to me - at least the little of it I can bear to listen to.

While I was rather fancifully thinking of the engineering feat in creating a man-machine itself (a synthetic person to go with the synth), I enjoy much techno/synth pop, and Kraftwerk has sentimental value having been given albums to listen to while staying in hospital in the 80s for a burst appendix. I was very into Gary Numan, and this has similarities.

Not saying you should listen and enjoy it, but something like "Spacelab" off it gets to me as much as it ever did. I love it and the whole album, but to each their own tastes and interests of course.

In a more Prog genre vein (I don;t care that much about "Prog" per se anymore, or definitions thereof but as it's the topic -- I like a lot of music), I think that Bubu's Anabelas (1978) is a masterpiece. National Health's self-titled would be a great pick for that year. Klaus Schulze's Mirage from 1977 is great if it counts as Prog... I think of them as more art pop/art rock, but Bowie and Bush were on fire (the burning bush, get it?) at the time.
Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I have observed before. It can be much like that with music for me.

Okay, I was wondering, as that sounds even much worse to my human ears, or no less than something like the most terrifying vision of the human future - even I can hardly think that it's possible to avoid some distant future like that.

Maybe not so much respect for the OPs here, but at least it's good that you tell about it.

You can of course have your own opinion, but that's certainly not so according to the average of ratings on both RYM (3.49) and PA (3.88).

Here a couple more of my favourites, which I don't consider to be quite Prog but on the borderline of it:

Fermáta (TCH) - Pieseň z Hôľ (1977)
Heldon (F) - Heldon 6. Interface   (1977)
Jukka Tolonen (FIN) - A Passenger to Paramaribo (1977)

Plus one which should have been included in my list:

Tantra (PRT) - Misterios E Maravilhas (1978)
