Robert Wyatt in Soft Machine sang about "All our mates like Kevin (Ayers), Caravan and the old Pink Floyd" (Moon in June alternate lyrics)

David Bowie wrote "Who needs TV when you've got T. Rex"

Get the idea?

What other prog (or even non-prog) acts have mentioned other acts in their lyrics?

Just curious - it might even be possible to link them up
if there are enough examples.

Note: I'm not on about quoting the music - just mentioning other bands in song lyrics.

Just remembered E.L.O. mentioned the Beatles in one of their songs, but I don't remember which - anyone know?

Does Dream Theaters " Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" count?? (in Octavarium) and they also mentioned Kurt Cobain in their song Just Let Me Breathe.

-from the song "The Sun In My Eyes"

Pink Floyd also mentioned Lucy in the Sky in Let There Be More Light. Not a band name but a well-known song, so I suppose it can count.

Good stuff - keep them coming!

Someone else did this recently as I remember putting The Tangent song in it.

Anyway, Yes mentioned themselves loads of times in "Tempus Fugit".

Sorry to be a sad git, but wasn't it the Rolling Stones mobile recording studio that actually gets the mention?

Am I right in thinking the Dream Theater track "Octavarium" includes a section that has references to a string of prog tracks like Supper's Ready (OK not bands in themselves....)?

Barclay James Harvest has a song, "Titles" with the lyrics done with Beatles' title songs. I found the lyrics:

"The long and winding road that leads to your door
Here comes the sun it's alright people shout for more
But were you trying to deceive telling me
All you need is love to succeed
Across the universe one after nine 'o' nine
I got a feeling for you blue and I feel fine
I tried so hard to make believe that I'd see
All you need is love to succeed

CHORUS:

Lady Madonna let it be
Something in the way you moved me yesterday
All you need is love so they say."

BJH also recorded a song named "John Lennon's guitar".

Guigo
