I say Mike Portnoy mainly because he keeps the crowd going, he stays on beat, his double bass technique is incredible, and his fills are also amazing plus i'm a
Dream Theater fan.

Easily Bill Bruford. He's very interesting, does some great polyrhythmic beats and I don't think he's ever done a bad recording.

Don't get me wrong I love Neil he's like my second favorite drummer of all time but Mike isn't all about speed have you even heard alot of Dream theater Mike doesn't always put speed into his drumming he just keeps the sound pretty and he's great at changing time signatures etc etc.
Neil's one of the greatest but Mike got his inspiration from Neil and exceeded beyond it.

Sorry my bad I did forget about Plamer so I take the blame for that.
But I believe that Mike Portnoy has much more talent then that of Bill Bruford I like bruford but I think he's a little to jazzy to be considered a high prog rocker he has prog in him but he doesn't always release it I love his jazz sound but not his progressiveness.

He's not jazz or prog, he's a unique combination of both and imo the most creative of the ones mentioned.

I love Neil, Mike and Bill pretty equally... Can't really decide, but if I had to, I'd say Portnoy, 'cause he was my first drum god ever.

First one to come to my mind is Gavin Harrison of Porcupine Tree. He doesn't show off too much, but his technique is perfect and he can play in some extreme time signatures (watch some of his videos on drummerworld). Also up there is Virgil Donati, Jason Rullo, and Martin Lopez. EDIT: Sorry for saying Martin Mendez the first time!! That's very embarrassing especially cause they are my favorite band.

I would assume he means Martin Lopez (Mendez plays the bass) of Opeth, which must be embarrassing for someone with an Opeth sig.
EDIT: ok, so Bruford has a jazzy style, that doesn't make him any less "prog". Also, proggy drumming isn't anything in particular, but drumming that goes along with prog music. There is nothing definite about it; sure, many famous prog bands were characterized by many time sig changes and syncopation/polyrhythms, but they aren't in every prog song. Bruford does all of those things, a lot. So how is he not proggy (are you suggesting that we not allow for jazz rock/fusion drummers like Cobham, who is AMAZING)?
not every drummer has to sound alike

Keith Moon, Clive Bunker or that dude from Procol Harum.
Oh, of these, Bruford. No doubt. But I never minded Collins as a drummer...
