pearl jam inspiered most alternative bands. alice in chains changed metal forever. and soundgarden started what many would call the greatest vocalist of all time's career. talk here about your fav grunge bands and other stuff.

Cornell the greatest vocalist of all time? Music press today is so funny sometimes, like when they call Grohl the
greatest drummer of all time ![]() Anyways, as far as grunge goes I used to have fancy for it back in the day. I still stick around with Pearl Jam, their most recent studio album (s/t) was simply excellent! Songs like Life Wasted, Severed Hand and Gone were just wonderful! Of course their older stuff like ![]() meaning to buy Yield. But other than them I don't listen to the genre much anymore. Cornell as disappointed me with his solo releases and his last work with Audioslave was pretty meh (but Out of Exile was awesome). Soundgarden was best with Superunknown but I never got much into them. I should steal from my girlfriend's grunge collection more often - but there's too much good prog to be listening to!! (btw, this is probably going to get moved to "general discussions") Edited by King By-Tor - May 24 2008 at 11:55 |

Yield is a great album, though I found Riot Act disappointing - and Ten is way, way better than the overhyped Nevermind! I love Eddie Vedder's voice as well, so warm, expressive and distinctive.

Not a Pearl Jam fan, not a Nirvana fan, not a Soundgarden fan and not a Candlebox fan, but... The Melvins are the definitive act in about four different genres, now. They seem to suit almost all fans of good music. They were even signed for a while, which makes me giggle considering the silliness - and sometimes, experimentalism - of their music. So good. and King Buzzo is in Fantomas too and even then, no-one talks about them here. remiss remisss =P

I used to buy Pearl Jam discs the day they were released, but really tapered off as far as that genre goes. The only discs of theirs that I own are Ten (a masterpiece) and Vs. (another masterpiece). I have heard that their latest one is very good, however. As far as grunge goes, that's about the extent of it. I, too, thought Nirvana wasn't all that great. E |

Never cosidered Pearl Jam, Soundgarden or AIC grunge.
Mudhoney, Tad, Green River, L7, The Fluid, Bleach-era Nirvana - they were grunge! |

From the grunge movement I love Ten by Pearl Jam, as an alt rock band. Also VS. is really good. But since then, they went low.
Haven't heard Binuaral neither their latest self titled.. Soundgarden's Superunknown is good, but way too metalish for my taste. I prefer the gentle and more alt rock oriented Down on the Upside. I do like very much Audioslave. Their debut has some fantastic songs, also Out of Exile, but they lack of consistency. Revelations, not having supreme songs, but it's very consistent and that's what I love about it. ..Need suggestions about No Code, Binarual and their latest self titled. Anyone please? |

I totally agree that Nevermind is way overrated. It has some songs there and now, but Ten!, wow, it's a heck of a rock album. Have you heard VS? |

I don't do drugs and I haven't dropped any basses on my head, anyone with an ounce of taste doesn't like the musical abomination that was nirvana, they are one the worst bands ever because that is scientific fact.

I loved the grunge when it was all the rage. Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Alice in Chains were all frequently played back in the day. Other bands from that era that I really liked were Temple of the Dog, The Screaming Trees, Mother Love Bone, and The Smashing Pumpkins, although with the latter they were more alternative than grunge. |
