Vocalist Ronnie James Dio has died after a battle against stomach cancer.
Message from Wendy Dio Today my heart is broken, Ronnie passed away at 7:45am 16th May. Many, many friends and family were able to say their private good-byes before he peacefully passed away. Ronnie knew how much he was loved by all. We so appreciate the love and support that you have all given us. Please give us a few days of privacy to deal with this terrible loss. Please know he loved you all and his music will live on forever. - Wendy Dio Dio came to prominence after joining Rainbow and also went onto to record with Black Sabbath and the offshoot Heaven and Hell. One of the great rock vocalists he will be sorely missed. Stargazer: http://www.progarchives.com/mp3.asp?id=3254 Edited by Tony R - May 16 2010 at 16:17 |

Oh gosh. I can't believe this. Just a few days ago I was wondering how he was feeling, and now this...
I am really overwhelmed with sadness. Thought I'd live to see my second favourite vocalist of all time perform live one day. Rest in peace, Ronnie - forever in our hearts! |

I am devastated. The whole thing brought back memories
of my mom's illness and passing, only a few years ago. We were lucky to
see him perform last year with Heaven and Hell. He seemed such a force
of nature... I just can't believe he's gone.

Oh my god, I didn't know he was sick. One of the most reliable hard rockers, especially in mid-80s when metal seemed to be on its last legs, those first two Dio albums were a bright spot after Randy Rhoads had died and the NWoBHM was coming to a close. Saw him with Sabbath for Mob Rules, in 1983 for Holy Diver, again in '84 for The Last in Line and then the small Angry Machines tour.

Sheeyit. I just got back from church, turned on the news, and this is what greeted me. What a shame; I, like so many others, had no idea that he was ill. RIP Mr. Dio, thanks for the music. |
