I know! I left off so many. There are just so many good ones so I figured it'd be easier to just do it this way.
My vote goes for Opeth.

Such a great band. And to think they've been around for so long, since 1990 and still going strong! Watershed was a pretty decent album IMO.

Anyway, opinions?

I'd guess i'd have to go with 2 bands who come to mind that dont necessarily have status in these archives:

Stereolab: Arguably one of the most influential postrock/progressive rock bands to fly under the radar in the 1990s.

The Mermen: Psychadelic/Surf/Progressive rock trio from California who have made some of the most far out psych/surf albums in the past 2 decades.

along with countless others who have flown under the radar.Clap

Yeah, I went with prog bands, since well it is a prog forum LOL Just a bunch of random big names I could think off of the top of my head.
But any bands you love post 89, let us know!

Nice JJ! lulz!

I went with a band not on the board yet, Mars Volta

They've made some really great music, no doubt: their debut is my favorite, but everything they've made is at least 4 star-worthy, IMHO.

Despite mixed opinions about their last 3 albums, they're one of the most talented and inventive bands since 1990... heck, even since time itself.

My 3 favourite are probably The Mars Volta, Opeth and Kayo Dot (with an honourable mention to Koenjihyakkei). I went with TMV for the poll.

Probably Anathema.....or Smashing Pumpkins...or Porcupine Tree.

Other - Mostly Autumn, followed by Iona and Riverside.

From the list, Opeth, Spocks Beard and Ayreon have done some fine stuff.

Other. The Red Masque. Nobody seems to know them.,or if they do they don't like them. But I think they are better than all of the other bands in the poll together.

From the list : Pain Of Salvation.

Other than that, it's rather clear that Iona was the best thing that could happen to prog within the last 20 years.

A loud and resounding other.

The Flower Kings second place would be Porcupine Tree, third would be Frost* which brings me to Spock's Beard as my fourth choice and the one that would have gotten my vote if there hadn't been an 'other' option.

Radiohead > Mars Volta > Kayo Dot > Porcupine Tree

I'll give the award to Mars Volta as most of what I've heard by Radiohead wasn't progressive (I still have to get Hail To The Thief and Amnesiac).
