Any of you hardy drinkers care to guess, without looking it up, what the record for most beers consumed in a single sitting is and who holds said record?

DON'T CHEAT, I'd like to see some honest guesses

My job (which in part deals with useless trivia) led me to this tidbit once.  But I can't remember the answer.

I want to say 72 beers.

I'll go with 3 thirty packs.

That's possible- the guy polished off sixteen bottles of expensive plum wine in about four hours.

Good job, Padraic, you got the who.
The amount was:
119 twelve-ounce bottles!

Excerpt from Modern Drunkard Magazine (http://www.drunkard.com/issues/10_06/10_06_andre_giant.html):

"Andre the Giant holds the world record for the largest number of beers consumed in a single sitting. These were standard 12-ounce bottles of beer, nothing fancy, but during a six-hour period Andre drank 119 of them. It was one of the few times Andre got drunk enough to pass out, which he did in a hallway at his hotel. His companions, quite drunk themselves, couldn’t move the big man. Fearing trouble with cops, they stole a piano cover from the lounge and draped it over Andre’s inert form. He slept peacefully until morning, unmolested by anyone. Perhaps the hotel people thought he was a piece of furniture.

Think about it: 119 beers in six hours. That’s a beer every three minutes, non stop."

Do any of you drink non-American beer like Corona or Heineken? I'm not a heavy beer drinker (except when I'm with my best friend) and I like American better... is softer and I can drink more of it before I feel I can't take more...

"I'm going to drink you all under the table then carry your girlfriends home." ~ not an actual quote, but it should be

I do not discriminate when it comes to the nationality of my beer.

I should send you a bottle of my country of origin's national beer (Pilsener)... Many tourists say it's one of the best they've tried... There's problems with the name though, which added to the business incompetence, has caused it to be missing from export beer shelves around the world...

I drink mostly Irish beers. I hate the two that you mentioned.

I have so much more respect for him now.

It's astounding the rate at which he must have had to metabolize the alcohol to not die.

^He didn't die old... I assume that heavy beer-drinking didn't kill him at once but helped sped things up in the long run...
