Nimrodel is classic. Fantasy gets boring after the first minute

All I like is prog related bands beginning late 60's/early 70's. Their music from 1968 - 83 has the composition and sound which will never be beaten. Perfect blend of jazz, classical, folk and rock.

I'll have to listen again. Mirage is not really a go to album for me. I remember them being about equal

Mirage is a bit hard rock in bits. The middle tracks are the highlights. Autumn or Riverman should have been on it

These are the best two tracks on Mirage IMO but Lady Fantasy shades it for me.

Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

I don't know if I am "digging", but I come across I guess.

I wasn't here in PA by the time this poll was launched, so thanks for bumping.
I like Mirage as a whole, but, forced to pick just one track, I'd choose Nimrodel. |

I had this exact same discussion at a sci-fi forum some years before I joined Prog Archives. I said then that I much prefer Nimrodel/The Procession/White Rider over lady Fantasy and I am still of the same position and while I have seen this same question come up several times (I have been at this way too long) no argument to the contrary has swayed me to reconsider my position.

They compliment each other well. Both feel like the sort of classic song that there's usually only one of on an album, but here we get two. What a treat! No need for me to pick one over the other. They both radiate a sort of long lost, enchanting and seductive beauty. I get nostalgic for bygone times I've never actually experienced. While listening I can easily understand why some young people wants to create music that sound like it's made in the same era. And why shouldn't they? Songs like these two have the ability to make people who wasn't born when classic prog was part of the zeitgeist (like myself) a lifelong fan of the music we come to discuss at these boards.

Lady Fantasy instantly comes to mind, what it sounds like, etc. It's more distinctive, and has those great transitions between quieter, medium level, and the great heavy part at the end.
I always have to think for a moment about the other one.

Lady Fantasy, but narrowly ahead of Nimrodel. Both are great. After 3,000 years sitting on the ocean floor, I decided to get some hot chocolate.
