^ & ^^
I said to myself I won't be posting in this thread or the poll, but these lists are so inaccurate, it bothers me, i don't even know why. Wherever you are copying these lists from, they're not doing a good job.

First of all, progressive metal and symphonic metal are two different genres, why put them together?!

Second, a lot of the bands mentioned there are not symphonic metal:

Allen/Lande can be considered power metal at best, it's melodic heavy metal.
Ayreon (and whatever other Arjen projects) are not symphonic metal.

The Beyond is an obscure progressive metal band, difficult to find, what's it doing here? (proof you're just copying titles, say it isn't so).

Eye for an Eye & The Edge are by a band called Twilight whose keyboardist will go on and form Beyond Twilight much later.

Blind Guardian is a power metal band, they even started as a speed metal band, same as Helloween. They have symphonic elements, but cannot be considered a symphonic metal band (like After Forever, Epica and Nightwish and the likes).

Wherever you copy these titles, find better resources, like metalmusicarchives and/or metal storm

^ Thanks for your valued input, Cristi, as you're far more knowledgeable about Progressive Metal than I am. There'd be little point in me just copying lists from Metal Archives  I compiled these lists between 2013 & 2015 entirely independently of ProgArchives & MetalArchives.  To be honest, I've listed Progressive Metal & Symphonic Metal together here, just so I could include two of my favourite Prog Metal bands: Ayreon & Dream Theater.  I'm using your Progressive Metal poll list as a helpful guide too with a little help from Wikipedia. Thumbs Up

If you say you are using my list of bands, first I say try and listen to a few songs from each band if you want to see what's it all about, see what you like or what you dislike (and i believe you would like some and dislike some).

Also metal archives and metalmusicarchives are two different sites.

Also have look at this:

That's good advice. I've been gradually working my way through listening to the debut albums in my Symphonic Metal poll, and so far, I like Aesma Daeva, After Forever, Amberian Dawn, Delain & Ayreon (obviously!), but I'm not so keen on Apocalyptica and Avantasia, so five out of seven ain't bad - if you'll allow me to paraphrase Meatloaf. Smile

I listened to The Beyond for the first time today and it's beyond me why I even added them in the first place as I didn't like them at all, so I've happily deleted them from my listings, making them even more obscure than ever now. Tongue

^ I've never heard of Coronatus or Crimson Tears(I will look them up), but the other three are not symphonic metal.

So you've chosen to ignore me.
Symphonic metal is not a progressive metal subgenre, associating these two genre is so messy, it's oranges and potatoes. Makes very little sense.

I never claimed Circus Maximus and Conception are Symphonic Metal. I found them in your Progressive Metal poll. Big smile

I only discovered Coronatus today and they sound pretty good too! Thumbs Up

Not what I meant.
Symphonic metal and progressive metal are two different things. I thought i made it clear in my previous post. Even within progressive metal, there are different sounds, styles.

So your lists make no sense.

I agree. There's a lot of crossover between Progressive & Symphonic Metal, especially in the case of Ayreon. Wink

^ Combining Progressive Metal & Symphonic Metal together here is a good way for me to discover new music, is it not, just as I "discovered" Dimmu Borgir this morning, although I rather wish I hadn't. Tongue

In theory, combining the two similar Metal genres together means I get to discover twice as much music. I've only listened to Dimmu Borgir's first album so far, so maybe I was too quick to judge them, based on what Archisorcerus and Logan have since told me, where they become more symphonic as you delve further into their discography. Dimmu Borgir's later albums are almost bound to be an improvement on their dismal first album. Smile

^ Paul, here are 2 videos (one of them, live) from Dimmu Borgir. They are among the finest in symphonic metal IMO. But evil. Evil Smile
