Here's an old one that I always liked, it has a Steve Hillage/Gong-like under-pinning!

Listen to the vocals in the first thirty seconds or so and tell me who that sounds a bit like(hint I mentioned him in one of my previous posts). Even the people who commented on the video think it sounds like him. And yes it's from the same album as "pepper."

a lot of 70s Scorpions is proggy. Smile The Uli Roth era is excellent.
Also Michael Schenker was 16 when the debut album came out. I always thought it's amazing. Big smile

Interesting question: I'd say that Elton John's Funeral For A Friend is an accomplished piece of Symphonic-Rock, wouldn't you?

I was thinking of adding Elton John to my prog channel, but I wasn't sure if I could justify adding him just on the strength of Funeral for a Friend, but then again, I've already added Fleetwood Mac (for The Chain) and Dire Straits (for Telegraph Road). Smile

I think Have Mercy On The Criminal can be a good addition too, as well as Oh Well on the Mac's side, and Tunnel Of Love by Dire Straits (possibly the live version on Alchemy)...

The whole concept of proggy stuff from not solely prog or even not quite prog related artists is pretty much how I got the taste for it. I think Jesus Of Suburbia and Homecoming (the other long suite from that album) are great examples of how elements of prog have weaseled their way into the mainstream over the years to great artistic and commercial success. Although I have to say Green Day may have tried to make the "Bohemian Rhapsody of the 21st century," but Welcome To The Black Parade by My Chemical Romance has a much larger claim to having filled that role culturally (and is compositionally slightly more similar to Boh-Rhap than Jesus Of Suburbia is, though neither of them do the opera bit in the middle). Muse also gave it a great shot with Knights Of Cydonia, but aside from Guitar Hero infamy it hasn't transcended anywhere near the level of Boh-Rhap or even Welcome To The Black Parade. Maybe someday...
Porg for short. My love of music doesn't end with prog! Feel free to discuss all sorts of music with me. Odds are I'll give it a chance if I haven't already! :)

Here's another old favorite of mine....an amazing song!  The Bangles did an electric version that is nice, but I prefer the original.

true, but it's more than that, "slightly prog" is nicely worded, any kind of examples are welcome, it can be a lot of things.
And it's for the fun of it, you are taking this too seriously, or am I wrong if I say that?

It was not uncommon for mainstream bands in the 70s to do proggy things like have key changes and multiple sections in a song.
The world of sound is certainly capable of infinite variety and, were our sense developed, of infinite extensions. -- George Santayana, "The Sense of Beauty"

July 14, 1972 at Ector County Coliseum, Odessa, Texas for me. Backed up by Jo Jo Gunne and Captain Beyond.

Mostly referring to alternative rock and similar forms. Muse has some great examples, which is probably why they're considered proggy to a degree.
