I agree. Spiderland doesn't sound like the Math Rock I listen to.  I know Math Rock when I hear it.  KC RED seems like it influenced early Math Rockers.  I seen a few interviews with Math Rockers and they'll say things like, 
"I was 14 and King Crimson was my favorite band." 

Personally, I'd prefer Math Rock genre separated from Post Rock.  I love Math Rock.  Post Rock?  Not as much.  As I ferret through PA's ratings, the Post Rock/Math Rock genre is clogged with Post Rock bands.   My complaint?  I got to sift through a bunch of Post Rock to find an occasional Math Rock nugget.  It's tedious. That said, I'm not asking PA to separate it. Although if PA did separate the two subgenres. I'd rejoice and be appreciative. Wink   

PS. I consider Behold The Arctopus more Math Rock than Tech/Extreme Prog Metal.

^ I like and agree with your perspectives, Cindy: the two seem distinctly different and so should be separated. 

I like both Post Rock and Math Rock but I can fairly easily distinguish the differences between the two--especially when listening to, say, tightly constructed music of SONAR to the loosely flowing jam music of GIFTS FROM ENOLA.

'Mathrock' is as much a sound as it is an approach ~ Breadwinner, Sleeping People, Oxes, Muddy World, etc.   Some people think Battles is Mathrock.  They're not.  Some people think Tortoise is Mathrock.  They're not.
