Hmm, one of my friends mentioned a band called In Flames, said it was mind blowingly good. So here you have my contribution.

Try some Rush like 2112, Permanent Waves, and Moving Pictures. All three are good examples of prog metal.

Some of these may not be prog but they are good all the same: SymphonyX, Ayreon, Savatage, Kamelot, Evergrey, Avantasia, Stratovarius, Threshold and Enchant.

I'd like to hear some metal like Opeth without a shouting terrible singer. Anyone know of bands that are instrumental of this style?

I'd have to agree with most of these guys, check out Opeth, Symphony X, Pain of Salvation (Gildenlow is a genius), Ayreon, Evergrey, and perhaps some Nightwish or Children of Bodom (althought these last two aren't prog, they're still very good)

Prog metal is also "where im at" at the moment and you seem to havemade similar reccomendations as me. HAve you seen many of those bands live because i dont get the chance to go to many progmetal gigs in the UK? I saw Edguy on the 19th AMAZING!

I saw Dream Theater on their Train of Thought tour. That was amazing! I missed the chance to see Evergrey in Bloodstock '04 (d'oh!!) cos I was doing an operetta in Cornwall (??), but I'm blatently going to go to Bloodstock this year. I s

I'll be there, and Ed's in line for a right kicking if he doesn'y come THIS time. Dragonforce are indeed an amazing live band and Evergrey, Threshold, Children of Bodom etc were completely badass at Bloostock '04, can't wait to see Evergrey agai
