Good to see you bareing your soul with Neil Diamond, Fragile. In view of the crooner he became, it easy to forget that in the early 70's he did have a fair degree of credibility. His "Gold" and "Taproot manuscript" albums were early purchases of mine, and I still enjoy them today.
First single for me was "Blackberry way" by the Move (ELO predecessor). It had a great B side called "Something" (not the Beatles song), which indicated the ELO direction they were to take.
First LP was "Willy and the poor boys" by Creedence Clearwater Revival, which I still find a good listen today.

Sigod: The Aristocats? And I thought I was the only one! I love that album!
The first singles I purchased with my own money (other than Beatles: "Love Me Do" was the first) were "Hanky Panky" by Tommy James and the Shondelles and "Summer in the City" by the Lovin' Spoonful. The first album I purchased with my own money was Meet the Beatles. The first prog album I bought with my own money was "In the Court of the Crimson King."
Sister Mary Francis!! Am I really that old?!

Umm - first single was probably Gary Glitter - I'm The Leader Of The Gang
First album was Journey to the Centre of the Earth - saved my pocket money for weeks to get that.
Despite everything, I still have a soft spot for Gary Glitter's early hits.
Can't say the same for Journey to the Centre of the Earth though. Listened to it a couple of years ago and cringed.
The next 4 were Tubular Bells, Ommadawn, Dark Side of the Moon and Selling England by the Pound, and I still love all of them.

When I was little boy I had several vynyls and tapes of Rock Music (mostly there were Beatles records).
The 1st haul by myself was SERGEANT PEPPER by Beatles when I was 13, but my 1st Progressive hauls were (after a half year) DARK SIDE OF THE MOON by Pink Floyd and IN THE COURT OF THE CRIMSON KING by King Crimson.

The first album I can remember buying was "Sheer Heart Attack" by Queen. I was 10 years old and I had never heard anything like this,it just blew my tiny mind. After playing the very first track,"Brighton Rock" I knew I wanted to be a guitarist. And not long after that, I got my first guitar and discovered to my complete shock that learning how to play like Brian May was actually very difficult so my guitar career lasted approximately 6 months.
Until I picked it up again when I was 17 when I joined a punk band but that's a very embarassing part of my youth I would much rather forget.

If my memory doesnt fail me on this one, my first Album was "Let it Be" - Beatles and the second was "Exile On Main Street" - R.Stones.
My first CD's were
1) Aqualung - J.Tull
2) Dark Side Of The Moon - Pink Floyd
3) L'Appocalypse Des Animeaux - Vangelis
I bought them the same day in a super record shop in Copenhaguen even no owning a CD player...Oh as a discount the shop owner threw in a CD called "The Greatest Hits by Fats Domino ! ! ! !
