Of this crop (of bands), Echolyn is the only truly original, truly progressive, outfit.  Probably the only band today producing music which reaches the dizzy heights that Yes and Genesis did in the 70's.  For me they win this battle hands down Clap

Flower Kings for me, by miles. Though if The Tangent were here, they would be a close second. Transatlantic third. The other 2 I don't know them that well to give a good opinion.

^^ Cacho, I'm with you again my friend. I absolutely adore everything I've heard by The Flower Kings. I've not heard Echolyn at all though, and will be investing in some of theirs once my payday is here!

Roger, depends what your tastes are, but I'd say Echolyn haven't produced anything less than a 4* album to date.  My fave is Mei but it takes a lot of investment to get to know a single 46-minute track.  For something a little more accessible I'd go for The End Is Beautiful, Cowboy Poems Free or  As The World.  ENJOY!!  Johnny

I agree that Mei is the pinnacle of Echolyn's career.  And it's been a great career at that, with some other stellar albums, Suffocating the Bloom, As the World, and Cowboy Poem's Free.  But, I love TFK and I have to vote for them, warts and all.  Spock's Beard is also a good band, and I really loved Beware of Darkness and V.  Transatlantic was good in some places but tended to be overblown for the sake of being overblown, something which I've never been a big fan of.  Some great tunes, but some of their songs could have been edited down 5-10 minutes.

Had The Tangent been here...well, my vote would have been different...
I can understand your anger at me, but what did the horse I rode in on ever do to you?
