Porcupine Tree

 

I had not a single CD.

 

I did not know anything about them. And I was photographing the 1999 SF Progressive Music Festival.

 

On Saturday, at 11 or so, when PT folks begun arriving and to setup their show equipment, it had been found that in the process, Richard's Prophet 5 took a nasty spill. For several hours with a couple of folks and everyone chasing down every music shop and Radio Shack that they could find, they were not able to fix the keyboard. Richard spent over 4 hours through at least two band's behind the curtains, programming what looked like 2 synths. They went on at their time slot, and were ready. A roady was bitching and moaning like a frustrated cow, but I have to tell you that this band sounded spectacular ... and I stood there and watched. So far in the two days, only Lana Lane and the Rocket Scientists had really showed up ... they opened the day with a tight set that was very well designed and the musicianship displayed was too good to ignore ... sadly, a lot of people were not listening, or appreciating good music! The rest was ... average if you ask me, including Brand X ... and then PT was on ... I finally had enough of that roadie and told him to shut up in the lobby and either turn on his ears or leave. I heard three people clap in the background.

 

It was a fine show, and Steven did allude to the loss of the keyboard, but you would figure that he would be perturbed and not feel that they could not do what they did well enough ... well, .... they did! And probably better than they would have to since they might have had to color more ... and be better.

 

It was an amazing show, and showed what master musicians and team workers can do. But the real kudo goes to Richard ... he knew what he was doing ... and as far as I am concerned, it was excellent ... I did buy a couple of CD's after that, not even knowing which to get.

 

So if you want punk or prog, don't bother.

No, the sad state of popular music is due to the lack of inspiration...

 

Well, sure it was a fact, but MY personal fact. If my opinion sounded to you belligerent, you´ve got the problem, not me. Review your way of behaviour, because the word prude suits better to you...is the humble opinion of a rough and cheeky newbie like me...

It's a modern masterpiece.

 

My comment about Porcupine Tree summarized just a particular point of view about the band. I remember listening to them a couple of months ago just to know why they are being so succesful, and my opinion after that listening was a sad one because their music was very cold to me. I respect the preferences of everybody, but PT are not a band worth of such attention (although they are interesting). Perhaps the lack of inspiration in music in these days (a huge shame, even there are interesting bands sometimes) has raised them to the Top...

 

About banning me, just wait me to open a thread discussing about the unworthy sucess of Pink Foyd...
