That's just because he was a hardcore user for a long time.

Those videos from the 80s when he's on speedballs are just whack

Since he's gone sober, 'death is BEAST live

I saw them it 2005.  High energy show, no doubt.  Dave played great, but still don't like his live voice and the man is as stiff as a board on stage.  Just my opinion.  No complaints about his guitar work, impressive considering his injury a few years back.  Without question, he surrounds himself with top notch talent.

Hate both, but Metallica has a couple of decent songs and they open some of their gigs with Exstacy of Gold Thumbs Up

I like Megadeth much more than Metallica. Megadeth has always been good (with some exceptions, most notably the absolutely horrid Risk and the rather bland The World Needs A Hero), wheras Metallica is now a shadow of what they used to be. Don't mention Death Magnetic to me either, because that wasn't as good as some people made it out to be.

Would you like some Bailey's?

Difficult, they both have about the same amount of music I enjoy! (Maybe Megadeth a lil more).

It's a tough choice, I listen to both equally and both have some good stuff
I have to go Megadeth only because I think they are more complex and technical

Both are great though

Megadeth just overall has better players, even if they aren't consistent, and restraint without getting sloppy with technique... I understand complaints over Dave's voice, but he's gotten much better lately, while Hetfield seems to be digging deeper and deeper into a slump (yes including Death Magnetic, it was better than St. Anger, but still not as good as he used to be)

Plus Megadeth just got done the Rust In Peace tour, which is by far one of the best albums in it's genre...which says a lot considering how great early 90s thrash was at that time, trumping just about anything Metallica has done, so there's my reasons :-D

I never cared for Metallica. The tunes struck me as bland and and the band as humourless. I prefer Mustaine's bitterness and humour. Oh, and the riffery. Can't forget the riffery.

I kind of agree with Walter! Shocked
I do like Metallica, but can't listen all the time and I only really like their first 4 albums.
And KEA has grown to be a bit bland to me....

Megadeth is indeed better musically.
Though I think Dave's musical dictatorship and blind rage to up Metallica was part of their problem.
Always had a line up of better musicians Megadeth did, but Metallica was stable and more of a band.

Metallica. Simple as that. Unlike many others, I enjoyed their post-Justice output (with 'Load' being among my favourites). This is what is interesting about them, they kept changing over the years, but they managed to write some really good material. Even though Lars turned into a mess as a drummer, they still kick ass live.

Not to discredit Megadeth, but their musical changes did not always suit me well. I find some of their early material ('Peace Sells') quite uninspiring, while 'Youthanasia' comes off as a lackluster effort. Plus Dave's voice has really become weak, concert-wise. Love 'Rust in Peace', 'Countdown ...' and 'Endgame' though.

Megadeth for me.I only like Metallica up to AJFA.Megadeth is way more consistent and there is a level of complexity in most of their music that Metallica just doesn't achieve.

I used to be a huge Metallica fan and would never listen to any Megadeth but one day i gave Dave a chance brought rust in peace and loved them. So it would probably be a tie, but metallica might just steal it.

In the 80s i'd say metallica were more consistent, megadeth could be a bit hit and miss eg. so far.. so good.. so what..

The choice is obvious for me.

There is only one Megadeth album that I like (Rust In Peace)

There are 5 Metallica albums that I like (Kill 'em All, Ride The Lightning, Master Of Puppets, ...And Justice For All, Black Album, Death Magnetic)

EDIT : it's 6 albums for Metallica !

Metallica, but I´m a Dane...
Most guys I grew up with including myself - have been fans since the early years. Denmark is a small country, so whenever somebody makes it big "cough" Lars - then they´re instantly propelled into stardom and everybody loves them. Big generalization, but it´s close. Some kind of modern national treasure.

Metallica is about the biggest boys club around here, and if you ever attend one of the shows here - it´s almost impossible to hear what James is singing half of the time, because the crowd is so loud. You´ll also hear Hetfield playing Kim Larsen (Danish national music icon since the 70s) and speaking our native tongue..
It´s very intimate if you will, and Metallica has always been part of our "family". Nearly every boy I grew up with had either Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets or And justice for all as their fave metal release, but they certainly had all of their albums.
Metallica for sentimental reasons.
“The Guide says there is an art to flying or rather a knack. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss.”

I don't love either band, but all I compare are the band peaks (Peace Sells + Rust in Peace + Countdown to Extinction vs. Ride the Lightning + Master of Puppets + And Justice for All). If it were simply Rust versus Ride, it'd be a tie, but it isn't. I sense a lot of COMPOSITION depth that Megadeth never had. To be honest, Deth just seemed dumber (not that Metallica were 'smart'). But comparing the songs Master of Puppets to Holy Wars... seems akin to comparing Happiness is a Warm Gun to I Wanna Hold Your Hand. Yeah, Holy Wars has that silly Punisher break, and it's fast and all, but Master of Puppets had the three or four different movements to it.

Like I said, Rust and Ride are a competent comparison, but I never gave a f**k about 'technical' playing. You see me worshiping Death over here? Death was a band thrice as complex as either of these two, and you know what my favorite Death tune is? 'Voice of the Soul' - that's right, a goddamn simplistic guitar instrumental. I don't give half a sh*t about 'complexity' or 'hard music to play that's also pretty boring typical metal that's only hiding its lack of truly inventive musical ideas behind a wall of stupidly impenetrable technical speed and convoluted what-have-you (aka the Dream Theater effect).

Song for song? Megadeth kinda sucks (in a not-sexually explicit manner of speaking) in comparison. :P

(;)_);) <--- A termite head. It's what I think of when I think of 'Vic Rattlehead'.
