Scenes from a Memory. Images and Words did start off well but SFAM truly topped it.

Come to us, Lazarus, it's time for you to go

Agreed here... Rudess is awesome technically but he never wrote songs like Space-Dye Vest or Wait For Sleep

Tough Poll!!!!

These two works are probably my all time favorite CD's...

Images & Words changed the way I listened to music. Being a Hard-Rock fan since the early 80's I ran into those classic Hard&Heavy bands like AC-DC; BLACK SABBATCH; DIO; UFO; SAXON; RAINBOW; IRON MAIDEN; WHITESNAKE; VAN HALEN; DOKKEN, just to name a few. Somehow I knew back then that "technicaly" something was missing...then (can't remember very well exaclty who intruduced me to DT) I hear Images & Words. I got so stumped with their sound that I must have  cried  out of happiness a few times.

Since 1992 - as far as music is concerned - my life changed and I worship DT.

In 1999 Scenes from a Memory was released and I couldn't believe my ears when I first played the CD. It grabbed me from the 1st second and I still am convinced that - in my humble opinion - is the best work that this pair of ears had the chance to ear.

Cheers to you all

Images And Words.

I think SFAM is BIT overrated, though.

I actually listen more often and constantly to IaW, so that's the reason why i voted for it. I come back to it much more often than to M2.

scenes From A Memory is the second best, the best is ToT. I like Jordan more than Kevin, his solo`s are stunning and I love his piano prats

Images. My vote just made it nice and even at 50% each. There is no doubt that Scenes concept is very good if you pick it apart (since it explains the meaning behind the name "Dream Theater") but the writing on Images is too good to not vote for it.

@ Wolf Spider.  anyway, i couldn't bring myself to choose between the two. I&W is so concise and has my favorite actual song by DT (metropolis), but yet there are so many points of absolute beauty on SFOM (overture 1928 and through her eyes to start).

both: 9.9/10 for me.

Sleepy(sleepy)

Ah, yes, okay. I understand.

My apologies if my blatant argument seemed rather rude, but it couldn't be helped.

Also, you and I both like to listen to Images and Words in the same kind of weather, it seems. Probably because I first heard Dream Theater in the January some-odd years ago, and Images and Words was one of the first albums I had gotten from them. Funny enough, though, is that I prefer to listen to A Change of Seasons during autumn.

"Don't listen to me."

While Images & Words is my all time favorite album, I must admit that Metropolis part II: Scenes From a Memory is by far their best work.
The good cop and the bad cop left for the day. I'm a different kind of cop.
