it's a hard question but I finaly landed on Flea (though hes not my biggest influence personly) but he's tone is so solid and he's slapping is fenomenal, from when he started those nice melodic bass lines and nice harmonising bass lines you just feel happy, and he's sound realy have influenced most of the more advanced modern bass-players.
 
+ he grooves live (and play trumpet)
 
(also a warm mentioning of Sting which could have ended up on the list (but I think he's songwriting is more infuencual then he's bassplaying but I mye be wrong on that)
