It was not clear that you expected us to list the albums at first, but I will edit my post when I have time to choose the albums that I think are masterpieces, though in a way one could question if a band can have multiple masterpieces, as it can mean the very best work of an artist (that said, with various bands I have rated a number of albums by tthe same band 5 stars -- i.e. masterpiece -- question of semantics).

Anyway,  with your changes to the first post,  I'm now trying to think hard about some bands which have  five masterpieces which are not excellent, not essential, and are not even any good -- i.e. bands with really bad masterpeices (just a little joke about miscommunication/ misunderstandings as I do understand what you mean).

And !!!

By the way, in the title you say you want ones with MORE than five masterpieces.

Per my standards, there are none.

But Banco del Mutuo Soccorso, Yes, Rush, King Crimson, Anekdoten, Pink Floyd and Genesis come close with four each.

King Crimson (haters etc)
-In the Court

Pink Floyd (see above)
-Saucerful of Secrets
-Ummagumma

edit: Oh and TD's first 7 are masterpieces, of course

Jethro Tull, Isis, Neurosis, Primus, Boris (f**k y'all they so prog), Swans (likewise), Agalloch (if you count EPs), Opeth, and Kayo Dot also come to mind.

I could have listed some crazier bands but decided to mostly stick to what more people listen to.

I think your criteria for "masterpiece" is a bit too loose, man.

None. Either in prog or my other fav rock sub-genres. The most albums I have given 5 stars(masterpiece) for an artist are two. Off the the top my head maybe 3 or 4 bands with the exception of The Beatles.

When we use the term masterpiece in this Forum,we have to be careful... God is watching us and givesus warning when we rate a cd or use this term. Only god can tell what is a masterpiece. It's looks like every one are picking their choice of masterpiece based on what band they like and why not? Is their some masterpiece on which we can all agree on.I only want some mastepiece that i enjoy myself, and hopefully others too. But the more music you listen in different genre, the more you can feel what's  a masterpiece. To me a mastepiece is a cd's that you can enjoy many times on a couple of decade and more... But how can i judge if a cd is a masterpiece from a kind of music that i don't like...

That's the point of the thread, to list albums which are masterpieces to you, as stated in the original post's unnecessarily large font: i mean list the 5 bands , and 5 masterpieces with each band you believe ( your own judgement , disregarding ratings from sites )

Ok here's my own... masterpiece (today at this hour...)

Yes (Close, Fragile, Going, and that's it)=3
Genesis (Foxtrott, Nursery, Lamb,Seiling)=4
Rush (AFTK, MP, PW, Hem)=4
Flower Kings (Retropolis, Ronnie Stolt, Back in the. Flower Power)=4
Marillion (Misplaced, Script, Fugazi)=3

I had to make the test to know the results. So i couldn't find 5, but i think that if i like the Sum of Evil by FK in a couple of years, it would be my only one artist with 5 masterpiece.

I don't think there are such bands. Not for me at least.

Now if we were allowed to list classical music...

Indeed, I like many (most, actually) of them. That doesn't mean that every single one of those albums is a masterpiece.
