A very close call for me, since I love both albums, but I'll go with "Selling England by the Pound" just by the tip of a hair.

One of my least favorites, Foxtrot, vs. one of my favorites of the era. No contest.

Foxtrot. Selling England has some of their best songs ever, but I think it's a bit uneven

That's right, here is
http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=96157&KW=two+albums
The winner was SEBP by one vote. 34 to 33
So I will copy my previous answer
The Mystical, you made a really difficult poll, but I will choose one of the two. Being a long time Genesis die hard fan, those albums are the best of the best for me (with Wind & Wuthering). In terms of tracks, Foxtrot has two masterpieces like Watcher of the Skies and of course Supper's Ready. Selling England has three masterpieces Dancing with the moonlight knight, Firth of fifth and Cinema show. Foxtrot catches the high sky because this mellotron intro of Watcher and the lyrical and theathrical concept of Supper's Ready, but mainly because Apocalypse in 9/8, the peak of the album. Selling England... maybe goes beyond of this, because musically is more complex, full of everything with Banks in all his glory and Rutherford there besides him in the songwritting, and Hackett with his biggest contribution. Those three songs are something like the quintessence of the progressive rock, specially Firth of fifth. So, I think that is a little difference between both albums in favor of Selling England, maybe because it was a logical improvement over the precedent album. So I vote for Selling England.

Wow... no wonder the deja vu. This wasn't even that long ago

For me its Foxtrot. Even though Selling England has what I consider to
be my favorite Genesis song, Dancing With The Moonlit Knight and my
favorite Hackett solo from Firth of Fifth. I love Foxtrot from start to
finish without a weak track. Get 'em Out, Can Utility, and Supper's
are some of my all-time favs. The beginning of Watcher's is iconic and
you can feel the power in those chords as you play them. I love the
layers of complexity in Get 'em Out and Peter's quirky commentary on
human genetic engineering. Mike Rutherford once said it was the best
set of lyrics Peter wrote while in the band. The album features so many
of my favorite drumming moments from Phil. And holy piss Supper's
Ready! (the whole thing not just the 9/8). And it doesn't even waste
any of your time, it starts immediately with Lover's Leap. A flower!
Magog! Explosions on stage! I still enjoy Selling England; it was the
first Genesis album I got into and I consider it to be perfection as
well, but its got to be Foxtrot. I've played that album to death. I've
always liked the more mysterious and raw side of Genesis so that's why
Foxtrot gets my pick.

I guess this is my fate, to answer the same polls, over and over again in an endless loop until it all becomes one contiguous blur. There's worse ways I could life out my life.

SEBTP. It works better as a cohesive album IMO. Foxtrot is still good, though, of course! Lamb still beats them both in my book by a wide margin

Foxtrot. SEBTP has some beautiful minutes, but tedious half-hours, particularly the waste of 25% of album minutes, the rambling, overdone Epping Forest (needed a forceful editor on that one). Never understood the love for Wardrobe either. Blah.

A tie - one has Supper's Ready - the other the best opening trio of songs you could wish to hear - yes including the superb, quirky catchy Wardrobe!
Of course neither album can match their masterpiece the dear old Lamb...

None of the above, maybe Foxtrot a bit more. In general if I spin up Genesis it's The Lamb.

England is a bit dull in parts. Foxtrot is better
|
All I like is prog related bands beginning late 60's/early 70's. Their music from 1968 - 83 has the composition and sound which will never be beaten. Perfect blend of jazz, classical, folk and rock.

Selling England for me. It may not have a masterpiece epic song, but in general the album is excellent. If it were not for the stinker "Battle of Epping Forest" it would be a perfect album.
