White Stripes is a band I’ve always sort of liked from afar, but I just decided to buy some albums (1st 2 for starters), and listened to De Stijl all the way through and was very impressed. Crafty songs, great guitar work and singing, and pretty good pacing on the album. I look forward to getting more. |

Good pick! I was at the local show on the Last in Line tour, many moons ago. Viv Campbell was just awesome and Ronnie was so enthusiastic. Great fun. Saw him at least two other times back then, but I think the Last in Line tour was my fave.

I got into White Blood Cells first and then went backward. Don't think I ever bought the ones after WBC though. I like them, but more as an occasional spin. Might have had Elephant I believe it was called, for a while, but didn't keep it for long so it must have not sunk in.

Oh you should, that "Ram On"-"Dear Boy" twosome is such a gorgeous run. Listening to Band on the Run last night, I'm thinking Ram is my fav Paul album, but I gotta give Venus & Mars a spin...been over two decades since I listened to that one but I remember liking it.

Funny in that Wings at the Speed of Sound was my first non-Beatles album purchase, as well as my first "used-album" purchase. I never owned Venus & Mars (I borrowed my cousin's copy for months) but I did have Wings Greatest and even hung up the poster in my room. So listening to V&M today, I gotta say that "Love in Song" is awesome, how I don't remember it so well I can't even guess, though I did love "Rock Show" when I was young and it hasn't really aged as well. The other doozy of a number I re-discovered is "Letting Go". Cool guitar riff and a super cool vibe, considering it's Wings. Also: Wings - Band on the Run: Unlike Venus & Mars, it's the more well-known songs that are rad (title track, "Jet", "1985", "Let Me Roll It" even if it's too long, and especially the kickin' "Helen Wheels"). I'm pretty sure I've heard "Bluebird" on the radio back in the day too, but it's really only that "bluebird bluebird aha" part that I dig. And yeah...Ram remains my fav Paul album for now. John Lennon - Mind Games: Man that title track! So good. I also like the rocky "Meat City" and the protesty number "Bring on the Lucie". In fact, all of side 1 would have been dope if it wasn't for "One Day (at a Time)". What a cringy falsetto horror. Yoko Ono - Approximate Infinite Universe: Lots of songs, and she sings in them. Sings some pretty blunt lyrics actually. They get a bit cringe on some of the ballads, but at least that and her wobbly croon keeps the songs from being bland pop. The rockers are often cool though. "Kite Song" and the title track has rockin' guitars, "What Did I Do" is so groovy, and "Move on Fast" is, I swear, late 70's post-punk that somehow came out in '73. I need to check out JL's Walls and Bridges next....oh, and that Ringo album with other Beatles joining in and a couple of hits too.

Why thank you. I just love the power in Ronnie's vocals most of all. It is a very warm recording and of course, as you said, Campbell's guitar absolutely slays. Egypt (the chains are on) is my favourite track. Cannot get enough of that one. |

Absolutely a great buy! You will love it. Cliff Burton's bass is more audible . You hear his clunking riffs far easier because the remaster has tamed the the low end distortion sound of both guitars . Enjoy it .I love it.

^ I heard the whole thing, I took a break on the fourth track but not because I was bored. This time I actually found the snare drum sound more annoying than LaBrie's voice
