I like both albums about equally. Not a massive fan though. I vastly prefer Signals to either album.
Granted, Hemispheres s’got the Villa and Moving Pictures doesn’t quite have a similar humdinger of a track...but then again the Villa is the only track I listen to off of Hemispheres. Moving Pictures is more even across the board.
Two solid 3 star efforts in my book

Moving Pictures for me I like every track from it. From Hemispheres I only really dig La Villa Strangiato.

Anyway, I've never really got the love for MP, Hemispheres is much better.

Tom Sawyer
YYZ
Limelight
Red Barchetta

admittedly the album takes a slight dip after delivering 4 masterpieces but hardly drops off the end of a cliff.

I get that MP has a number of Rush classics but they just don't do much for me for some reason. Even Tom Sawyer is just ok imo. I'd much rather listen to anything that came before MP to be honest, except maybe the debut.

I don't listen to Rush much anymore. I definitely will not listen to anything after Signals. But prior to that, Hemispheres is my least favorite album. LVS is a good song, but the title track bores me to tears. That ends up being half the album. So for this vote its got to be MP.

I realise I’m in the minority here on PA, don’t worry My tastes in music are most likely horrendous to a lot of folks out there, but then again they’re mine
I don’t hear these albums as masterpieces, but I do like them. I know quite a few who love them like you do.
(3 stars over PA though is a good rating. I do however believe that many members feel the exact opposite. I’ve seen some very scathing 3 star reviews where the reviewer had no intention of ever listening to said album again..which is madness imo.)

No torture at all, it´s absolutely Hemispheres for me. Moving Pictures is of course good, but greatest albums from Rush are 2112, a Farewell & Hemis.

There are no right or wrong answers. The sin as you say is not listening to an album before you review it.

Moving Pictures over Hemispheres though they are both very good.....but actually like Farewell To Kings and Permanent Waves better than either.

Even though it was my first Rush album, I now feel Moving Pictures is a bit overrated.

Hemispheres wins this one by a mile!

I would go...
Hemispheres...1000 prog points.
Farewell to Kings....850 prog points.
2112... 800 prog points.
Permanent waves 700 prog points.
Moving pictures...500 prog points.
Caress of Steel...400 prog points.
Fly by night...380 prog points.
The rest isn't prog....

Hemispheres has aged well for me personally, better than MP. Also I saw Rush many times on that tour. So its Hemispheres all the way. A Farewell to Kings is better though.

I know when I used to play my vinyl everyday I would spend quite a long time fingering through my collection. It would be, "Ok I fancy some Rush, Which album?, then I would spend more minutes trying to decide, Caress or 2112 or Grace, whatever...all equally good albums, the crux of it is what mode you are in. Just the same as which genre, heavy rock or synth type rock. And also I would say do you want to "listen" to the album or just play it like back ground music.

MP is a far more cohesive and professional album than Hemispheres.  But musically they are equal, with Hem a bit more interesting and certainly more progressive.

lol , Permanent Waves - Freewill , Spirit Of Radio , Jacobs ladder. Yep what a pile of sh*t! LOL

Except Permanent Waves was before Moving Pictures.

Just addressing the idea that Rush went downhill after Hemispheres when they clearly didn't. Permanent Waves was a new lease of life for them and then came one of the best albums ever made imo.

I'm with you. Signals and Grace Under Pressure are great albums. In fact I would argue that Rush have a better post Moving Pictures discography than Genesis's post W&W discography.

I'd agree but it's tight. Rush had three good albums after MP, Genesis had two after W&W..
Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!
