With a line-up like that, how could it not be interesting?

Claypool and Anastasio are Oysterhead and ineligible to play together here.

I figured no one else would catch that.....I should have known better.

An interesting fantasy exercise but I have to agree with 'Dark Elf' and 'Cristy' in that most of these 'prog bands' would be at each others throats in a very short time.

A big Clap for nominating a band of four. Too big bands are unbearable more often than not. And another one Clapfor having Jaki in it!

Roger plays rubber bands in my band (second post on the top of page 2). I have a feeling he would butt heads with Eve Plumb and Don Knotts.

I'm going for something a bit different.

- Duke Ellington (piano)
- Glenn Miller (trombone)
- Louis Armstrong (trumpet and backing vocals)
- Gene Krupa (drums)
- Tim Smith (guitar and vocals)

The band would be called Swing to God.

The band would be called 'Bloodbath' and they all end up fighting to the death on stage using their various instruments. The sole survivor gets a long, profitable solo career.

I stand corrected---Gabriel can play flute---sure Phil can play was great in his day-- but just saw a video of him from today sadly looks like he can barely sing let alone play drums--

Well, there was creative tension that, even when at each others throats, resulted in some great music!

The problems in these bands were well-documented by the artists themselves....I once saw Holdsworth bitch & moan about Bruford and UK during an IOU show (with Wackerman, Berlin).

Having played in a few bands, I know that the best music is made when there is this tension...Fripp has often spoken about it.  Eno's "Here Come the Warm Jets!" was a compilation of musicians who apparently didn't like one another, and the result was sublime!

Well, the line-up I came with was thinking of 70's musicians (and I'm sorry, but as much as I love Pink Floyd, Waters is not among my favourite bass players). About Portnoy, he is among my favourite drummes, but I would need to have been thinking about a newer line-up of musicians, most likely prog metal... and for that, I would go with a line-up consisting of Dream Theater with some other singer... I guess my top choice for such a thing would be DIO (though he was a bit older than the Dream Theater guys).
