Sure I don't know him... I own all the Allen SX CD's... SX is one of my fav Bands... How COULD I possibly know them?... Lets just leave this conversation, because it has no sence... Why don't I say that You don't know Mike Baker, Xymphony? It turned into a fanboy fight, so its useless.... I prefer SG, You prefer SX... And we won't change that! Now run along and listen to their CD's
btw... So c'mon, I dare You! Convince me that Allen is better then Gildenlow!l
And that SX is technically better then DT

Of course there are bands which are complex but most of the bands you mentioned are not as progressive and as diverse as SX...
next time please don't post any bands think about what you write... |
SX is not diverse or progressive for the most part. SX is quite bland. In fact i consider almost 80% of SX's music to be closer to Power Metal than prog. What so progressive about songs like Dress to Kill, Of Sins and Shadows, The Relic, Medusa, and hell almost any SX song that is not an epic. The only real progressive songs i've heard of SX are The Divine Wings of Tragedy, Edge of Forever, Winter's Dream, Through the Looking Glass, Rediscovery, The Accolades, and well the Odyssey. Other than that i don't see SX as diverse or progressive.
Yes, I do consider Katatonia to be more progressive than SX. Katatonia has done more to evolve their sound and increase complexity throughout their career. SX has stayed very similar and in the case of The Odyssey, weakened their career.

ALL arguments are subjectie... Should I write IMO at the end of all sentences?
Well... MO once allmost convinced some people that Mick Pointner was better then Mike Portnoy, Danny Carrey and the likes...

Every Symphony X song has progressive elements, some are more progressive some are more progressive and funny that you think Of sins and shadows and medusa are not progressive... you can define progressive metal with those songs...
I think you should better inform about what is progressive...imo you just consider epics as progressive or song that have 50 different themes...

a Bravo for everyone, for me Symphony X are better than Shadow Gallery for 2 reasons:
1-Vocal: Russell Allen in this moment is the best vocalist in metal scene(after LaBrie's voice departure),because he doesn't follow melody but he create's with his voice new music line.Great! Not Shadow Gallery's vocal!
2-Prog element:in every symphony xs' albums all songs are heavy but prog too, instead shadow gallerys' albums have two or three songs at least that can mention as prog;so most tracks are pop-prog metal in Vaden Plas style.

I actually consider the vocals to be the least interesting aspect of SX's music. I'd rather take any LaBrie or Tate copyst than that guy.

Not agreed. You may not like him of course, but Allen has a very good ear, and the vocal partitions of S.X. are so hard to perform that, not many vocalists can sing them in proper way. He is very talented

Well.. I prefer FIRST LIGHT, and You prefer THE ODYSSEY
The album itself is far 2 heavy for my liking... I liked the more orchestral melodic side of Symphony X... I love the song Accolade II though

V is better than both, i think. But i also like DWOT better than the Odyssey. It is a matter of taste, as DWOT is more power metal based than The Odyssey. Why i like Odyssey less, is mainly because i don't like the drum sounding...
