Mike Patton does some of the weirdest "singing" I've heard... (although helofloki is right, hes really not a prog vocalist)
Geddy Lee's squealing is definitely unique...
I've never heard another voice like Jon Anderson's...
And Maynard James Keenan's is totally unique, which gets weird if you think about it too much while you listen to him.

When Brufford is about to leave Yes to join KC Anderson told him:
Why are you want to go to KC. It's like some football player wants to leave Arsenal to play for Bolton.
But after a whili he joins KC as guest vocal on LIZARD

Peter Gabriels voice isnt massively distinctive but his style is completely unique, only Fish has tryed to emulate it and he didnt pull it off in the same way Gabriel did.

I like the singer from Soft Machine (why can't I think of his name?). He's got that sort of college-student voice. He was also amazing in Caravan.

Robert Wyatt is also Richard Sinclair - I didn't know that.................................. I wonder if they do?
A point of information: "unique" is an English word that does not and should not have a qualifier, as unique means 'the one and only', so 'most unique' is bad tautology.

Mr. Doctor's voice is about the most unigue I've heard. I'd say Hamill comes in second and Francesco DiGiacomo third. For prog metal I like John Arch and Daniel Gildenlow. As for my favorite vocalist, this would be Banco's DiGiacomo. No one comes close in my opinion. What a voice.

VERY good choice. Much as I love Hammill, I can't say he's UTTERLY unique - his voice is often comparable to Bowie's.
I nominate the collected vocal talents of Samla Mammas Manna as the most unique voice in prog, and indeed music history!

Heck, if Geedy Lee is in here then Jonsi from Sigur Ros can be here also. And don't forget Mr. Doctor from Devil Doll. Very wierd indeed
| I'll add mr. Hammil and that guy from The Residents; plus Dagmar Krause from Art Bears and Henry Cow. That lady from Curved Air has a voice, that's for sure, and I won't left Meredith Monk behind (not entirely prog, but experimental).

This thread turned out to be so "manlish"... I think I'm the only one that pointed some girls... Dagmar Krause should be, by definition "The unique" voice of prog. ¿Why? Because ehr singing is stronger and weirder than any of the mentioned so far. I don't know who's the singer from Nil, but I love her; also, the girl that is featured in some of the Halloween albums. I'll leave you now. Keep mentioning just guys... somehow, that kind of say something...

Roger Chapman - Family
He's the most unique singer I've listened to. Have you ever heard a goat singing?? Well, listen to this guy.

Ok, for the wonderful women singers in prog, I'll go with the singer in Gong being the infamous Shakti Yoni. I just love that space whisper. Second would go to the singer in Amon Duul II being Renape Knaup-Krotenschwanz.

I've no idea whatsoever as to what his name is, but for my ears, it has to be Comus' singer.
Edit: This is just in, apparently the name is Roger Wootton.
