my 5:
  1. Triumph
  2. GTR
  3. Alan Parsons Project
  4. Kate Bush
  5. Remove that damn George Michael album listed as a Queen album.

I would remove Queen to art rock,
and Iron Maiden to proto-prog (that's making sense if you think about it)

George Michael and Queen: Five Live is not THAT horrible; it's even somewhat artsy-fartsy.

Why would anyone want to remove Kate?
I wouldn't remove anything, not even Tool.LOL

WHoa, there goes a whack of obscure crap At least with, say ,Triumph & Alan Parsons Project, there more than a few folks that can discuss whether they're great / good/ bad / horrendous because they've actually heard them.

Sorry, I just can't help it. That's the dumbest and most ignorant thing I've read in a very long time!

no, because the time is at least ten years too late. ProtoProg must have been recorded prior to 1969 to qualify as the music that led to prog.

Don't you see? Iron Maiden existed then IN SPIRIT. ...And in the form of whatever the crap Ritchie Blackmore was doing at the time (when was that "Hush" recorded?).

Well, that is a big reason for the proto, and related categories. They bring more people in. That is not such a bad thing either. Some new prog lovers might be created along the way.

I came here on a search for progressive music that I hadn't heard. So, the bands in question didn't turn me away. I found what I was looking for, and much more.

While we're at it, let's also get rid of Neo, Folk, RIO, RPI, Art, Metal, and Fusion. Oh, and especially Symphonic. Wow is that stuff pompous and irritating.

I say we remove King Crimson. Then we could have an open debate as to who really initiated the prog era, namely Klaatu Big%20smile or maybe John Coltrane with A Love Supreme (hey, 4 songs as part of a suite, it's got prog written all over it)

We could also remove Genesis on those grounds. Banks, Collins and Rutherford never considered Genesis prog!

Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!
