Well I'm not fond of Marillion. Fugazi is great, but didn't like anything else I've heard of theirs.
Kansas grew on me after a while. Their first album, Leftoverture, Point of Know Return are all great albums.

I am no stranger to Kansas, or "Magnum Opus." I stand by my earlier response.

That name thing is the big mistake some people make with Kansas which is ashame because they dismiss some amazing music by doing that (Kansas have hints of Heavy southern rock in places but are very progressive) , as far as the Misplaced Childhood CD goes (I like that cover) its a classic prog CD you should have purchased it. Now you miss out ... why ? because you closed your mind

Not buying an album based solely on an album cover and a band's name? Pretty open minded.

Marillion, as I prefer prog rock to soft rock! |
Kansas is soft rock ? I begs to differ ... go take a listen to the first 5-6 Kansas albums. There's a reason that Steve Walsh wore gym shorts on stage. He jumped & hopped to the music. I wonder if the only Kansas song you may have heard is Dust in the Wind.

I like both bands, but I vote for Kansas because Leftoverture and Song
for America are in a level that no Marillion album can compare.

For their entire body of work, I voted Kansas, but I also love the Marillion era with Fish.

On second thoughts, you may not want to answer that |
that's OK speaking of, i still have an old live version somewhere on tape
from reading festival 81 or 82 – not bad at all!
to keep to the subject – i quite like a few kansas things but this is like
comparing apples to oranges. for my dose of kansas (once a year at the
most) i listen to the “live at the whiskey“ CD, which is a raw, emotional
and in-your-face disc, despite or even enhanced by steve walsh's VERY
knackered vocals.

progressive rock and rural tranquility don't match. true or false?
