^ The other day I was checking that Bubblemath album, and the first thought that came to my mind was "this is really avant but easily enjoyable". So, you know, one could think that even in a complex genre like Avant (well, I still think Bubblemath is more avant than eclectic, but, whatever...) you can find such fine particles in the uni... oh!! no no, I mean, you can find some albums that are apart from the 'prog complexity' if we can say so. Some of my non-prog-listeners friends enjoy Disco Volante... Who would say, the so called most experimental from Mr. Bungle...

If you are beggining, I recommend you to start with the following albums:
- Yes - Close to the Edge - Rush - Moving Pictures - Pink Floyd - Wish you Were Here - King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King - Marillion - Script of a Jester's Tear - Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick - Genesis - Selling England by the Pound - Camel - Moonmadness
well, these are my favourite classic albums...

Tech/Extreme Prog Metal Well to be fair, my first exposures to prog were Pink Floyd, Genesis and Yes, haha.

I agree with Sckxyss. It depends entirely on what the person enjoys. Shoot, the fan of experimental music may find RIO to be right up their alley. It depends entirely on what the person generally enjoys. I wouldn't even try to push the classics on them first. If someone is a jazz fan and you give them 'Selling England by the Pound' you're going to loose them before they had a chance.

I don't have an unnatural obsession with Disney Princesses, I have a fourteen year old daughter and coping mechanisms.

I wouldn't reccomend anyone starting with the second generation or
division of a music genre. Begin with where it begun. I'd suggest something like 60's King Crimson &
Pink Floyd and take it from there.

Maybe we can define the archetypical prog genre style.
