Seeing as this thread has sort of restarted. Opinions of episode 1 of series 7?

I liked it, but only a bit. Episodes have been getting a bit weak the last couple of years. And this episode is obviously just setting up next years big return for the 50th anniversary.

I thought the actress who played Oswin would have made a wonderful "companion".  And it turns out, that's exactly who she'll be.  A different character than in this episode, though.  Rather odd!

^^ There is lots of fan speculation floating around surrounding the Oswin character(s). Some think Jenny (the Doctor's daughter, series 4) is going to be involved, much of that theory based on the chair in these two photos:
Personally, I'm just going to wait and see.

I really hope Jenna-Louise (Oswin's actress) comes back some way or another. She was awesome

Umm, she is (will be) the new companion, as of episode 6 this season.  It's unclear if the character is Oswin or not.

The new companion will be called Clara Oswin, Jenna-Louise Coleman's character in the last episode was Oswin Oswald, so evidently the two will be related in some way as has happened before in DW ... Freema Agyeman returned as companion Martha Jones after previously playing Adeola Jones and there have been several re-occuring characters who are linked in some way, such as The Face Of Boe and Jack Harkness. Of course since they are playing around with time how that relationship works can happen in any direction, just as it did with Melody Pond / River Song, who met the Doc long before the Doc met Amy Pond.

Tomorrow's episode is called Dinosaurs On A Spaceship ... I like that title.

Scott, I own all the currently released vintage DVD's, a massive collection..and although I've bought all the modern ones too, I'm so far behind in watching them. I don't think I've seen more than the first five or so Matt Smith episodes, which means I've got about three seasons to catch up on! :D

I would watch this new Special in the morning, but I'm on nightshift, so it means I won't get home until 8am!

I've tickets for a "live" 3D cinema presentation of the programme this evening. Should be a giggle.

Well, Dean, if I wasn't on same said nightshift above, I would LOVE to have been going to a cinema screening as well! Double

I bet it will be great, I wonder if you'll get people in different Doctor costumes! Someone sure better have a long Tom Baker scarf!

I have a long (9 meter) "Dark Side of the Moon" scarf, but I won't be wearing it. LOL

I expect a number of people will be dressing up, even in Basingstoke ... I thought about it for two seconds then discarded the idea - I'd look ridiculous: a cross between William Hartnell's Doctor, Anthony Ainley's Master and the Goodyear blimp. Ouch

I remember several years back a friend and I were going along to a midnight premiere screening of one of the newer Star Wars films. I came up with the mind-blowing idea of having some lightsabers attached to our belts haha!

As we're nearing the cinema entrance, my friend was like `Oh man, we look like idiots' etc, and then we walk into the cinema foyer, and I swear it was like the cantina scene in the original SW, EVERYONE in costumes! So my reply was `Great, now we're underdressed' !

Oh yeah, poor Colin Baker! It's a shock when I saw him now on some of the extras on his Who DVD's!

I really need to make the time to watch more Doctor Who.  My familiarity comes from a handful of VHS tapes I rented and/or bought, mainly from the Tom Baker period, but with some Pertwee too.  And I haven't really seen anything since. The curious behavior of the Daleks has also made its way into our family's bucket of humor.  Maybe because of this, my wife got me a Doctor Who t-shirt about a year ago ("Time and Relative Dimension in Space", printed in the shape of the Tardis), and of all the t-shirts I own, that is the one that has gotten me the most compliments and comments from complete strangers.  Problem is, a lot of them then assume I'm a Dr Who fanatic too, and I feel kind of dumb when they then want to talk about the show.  Kind of like when a Penn State alumnus sees me wearing a Penn State shirt and wants to know when I graduated (I didn't - my wife did).  So it would be nice if I was a bit more current on the Doctor Who show.  It's on Netflix, I just need to make the time for it.

My mother, my sister, and the majority of my friends all love Doctor Who but I guess I'll just never get it. I've been forced to watch episodes from the Baker, Tennant, and Smith eras. My takeaways: there are some entertaining enough episodes from the Tennant and Smith years but the old stuff is boring beyond belief. Also, Karen Gillan and Jenna-Louise Coleman are super hot.

Time always wins.
