Glad you asked, I found this on the Facebook page for a buddy (John Pazdan, US drummer with famous Chicago bands "Pezband" and "Off Broadway").

Damn drummers did pretty good!  Grrrrrrrr (jealous bassist)

And I have never heard about such things as Blink 182 or The Aquabats, but obviously a few others have...

I know that many musicians, some of them famous, didn't get anything like the money people think, many of them are (relatively!) poor now.

It ain't exactly chump change in 2012.

How could Moraz not be paid for those tours which were the biggest tours of their time? Did he not at least receive a weekly paycheck? They were staying in the best hotels and traveling on their own jet---or did they consider that payment enough? Crazy.

I wouldn't mind making a measly 1 mil every week or so. Pays the bills and stuff.

For the most part, I think the only prog bands that really "struck it rich" were the ones who crossed over to a more popular scene at some point, such as the aforementioned Kansas, obviously Genesis, maybe even Yes, and more modernly Dream Theater for sure, Opeth to a degree, and bands like Tool. They get signed to giant labels who give them a very pretty salary.

I believe in Armando Gallo's first pictorial biography, members of Genesis admitted they were deep into the "red" until well after both Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett left the band...

I'm pretty sure that Rush don't need that much touring now, don't you think?
Who else got rich? ELP, at a time, had more money than Cresus...stating their manager.
I frankly don't think that bands like Quella Vecchia Locanda made it big.
On the other hand, the best prog is not the one who made it.

Nick Mason has a really big car collection. And he was probably the one that made less money from the band. I guess Waters and Gilmour have made enough money for the next few generations in their families.
I shook my head and smiled a whisper knowing all about the place

Lol. Waters and Gilmour could buy a country together, bit they would have to split it in half because they don't get along. Lol

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that Neil Peart's net worth alone is like $22m.

This is interesting!  http://www.paradiseartists.com/artists/greg_lake/rider.pdf

I have a friend who saw Greg Lake's recent solo tour, it was "OK."  Greg told a lot of stories, more than he sang/played guitar.

I don't think Greg would be doing this if he were wealthy, do you?

I had the chance to see this locally & passed.  Why ruin good memories of seeing "Brain Salad Surgery" in concert, twice?

Money is certainly a big driving force but I think that these old artists also are rather proud of their work and have a need for recognition. The audiences are beginning to forget their legacy, so what better thing to do than tour to remind them. LOL

Roger Waters doesn't need the money but he's been putting up his monster show for more than two years now. He wants the applause methinks.

I'm currently reading a book about Ange, one of the main French progressive bands (Ange, le Livre des Légendes, by Thierry Busson, Xavier Chatagnon and Bruno Vermisse, éditions Eclipse, 1995)

While the band could often fill venues with 5000 people (even 10 000, if not 30 000 when they played at Reading '73), they barely saw the money: Daniel Haas (bass) explains that the musicians would hardly earn 2000 francs (around 300 euros!) per months!
