Just curious as to how old members are on here and maybe see if I can figurer out if there is an average age. This is just for fun. I tend to think most prog fans are a bit on the older side so I want to see if my assumption is correct or not.

Dean, not sure why you felt the need to give me the rolly eye there. If you have been to as many prog shows and festivals as I have it wouldn't be an unreasonable assumption since the younger folks seem to be few and far between most of the time(aside from those who are there with their parents).
I see no "rolly eye" ... I see a couple of "erms" ... in the space of nine years you have changed your tune from thinking we're all mainly a youthful bunch to thinking we're all a bit on the old side ... I find the idea that we've aged so much in 9 years to be very amusing, so I rofl'd.

The last prog festival I went to was indeed filled with people who look exactly like me, and the last prog gig I attended was also filled to capacity with people who look exactly like me. Neither of these observations are surprising as headline at the festival was Asia and the capacity gig was for The Enid - both attract an older demographic for numerous reasons. I suspect the gigs and festivals you attend are also those that attract a more elderly clientèle because the attendees are mainly of the older generation. The only modern Prog gigs I tend to go to are Prog Metal, there the audience is considerably younger and I'm one of the few exceptions at those giggles who needs a bit of a sit down mid-way through the set to rest from all that head-bunging. Gig attendance demographics do not necessarily reflect the true picture of the demographic that buys the CDs or downloads the music - there are prog fans who never attend live concerts and there are those whose interest fades during the bit of a band's set when they stop playing their greatest hits to air a new song so chose that moment to take a pee-break or another trip to the bar. We've already seen from other threads and polls that many of the PA members of the younger set are well versed in the older prog scene, and while not as prevalent, there are some of us geriatrics who are up to speed on the modern Prog and Prog Metal scenes; few of us like to be pigeon-holed and this is probably why we dig Prog.

Generalisations are tricky things, you have to consider all the factors involved and ensure that you are comparing apples with apples.

I think that those 30 somethings are so busy with life, they don't have time to hang around internet forums. Kids and careers leave no time to pursue your own interests.

I think I know what that is, but it took some deep thought.

It's quite simply the answer to all things.

Tom Ozric is 42 at the moment. I guess he is feeling the effect by now.

I think this is the most likely reason, and if you checked just about any internet forum out there you would see a gap in the 30-something ages.

22 by the way
