I hated it.. but objectivity is a rare quantity.  Only a few have truly have it I suppose. It was a great album.. I just thought it was dogsh*t in the terms of what I like.

There was a bigger fur blizzard than when William Hung was added to the database.

I like this excerpt of yours from your review "For the site...5 stars... a masterpiece of prog metal if it is your thing..and my review says enough on that. For me... 1 star and I will never sit through the album again."

I don't know if it's a great album even if its a very accomplished album, but that's because I don't know that it's dangerous enough.   It's a fairly safe album for those that like that sort of thing, rather than really challenging them, even if takes people like us out of our comfort zone (mostly cause I find it dull). It has proved to be an influential album, though, and must have been adventurous for a lot of metal-heads.
Just a music fan passing through trying to fill some void. Various music I am into now: a youtube playlist

it is a landmark album in the realm of prog-metal.. in my mind then.. and still today.. that trumps some wise ass reviewer who had as much business reviewing it (an album he would not like) as he would a f**king Camel album..

of course the reason the Admin team didn't zap my review is they saw the real reason why I posted it. Of course it was in part to have some fun with the DT kiddie club.. but also to prove a point about the stupid (see this thread) ratings system here.  too much mixing of liking sh*t albums to the point of making them... god this hard to say.. masterpieces of prog rock (see SWilson) to having albums ..yes.. like Tales ... that were so far off the map that nailed what PROGressive rock was all about that they turned some off... you aren't pushing the boundries if everyone likes it... yet do reviewers take into account.. of course not.  2 stars.. blah blah blah.. should have shortened it.. yeah... and f**king Rubens should have used less canvas.. less red in his paintings.

bah..... no wonder I retired ... LOL

Billy Cobham's Spectrum is the first one that comes to mind--decent, but not THAT good.

There's 6 or 7 I haven't heard on the list, but I've watched it for years, and seen that albums keep coming in and out of the bottom; albums in the top 50 or so move around a little, but they have solidified pretty well with occasional additions of well-liked newer albums.

You're embarassing yourself here. Only a complete novice would pick this above their sophomore effort The Northeast Ascent of Jacques Lacan's Pharynx (Vultures of the Limbic System).

I don't know all the albums in that list and I'm not interested in some.
Some of them I don't like. I would not remove any of them, if those are the most popular or highest rated, what am I to do? LOL

Kind of Blue.  To have a 1959 jazz album considered the 28th greatest prog album of all time is ridiculous Wacko

And that opinion should be on the 'unusual prog opinion thread'.....in my opinion.

I already did, and explained why I hate it so much. I respect what it did in a historical context, but as for the music and album cover, I just can't stand it.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I meant I had posted why in the unusual opinion thread. Smile

I find In The Court of the Crimson King to be really awful. Not only does the cover just make me cringe, but most of the songs are either too boring, too long, or too improvisational for my tastes (Moonchild). I Talk to the Wind would be a really nice song if it was shorter, and the title track is okay but that's it. Also, I personally prefer "Pictures of a City" over Schizoid Man. Yeah, it's similar, but it sounds much cleaner to my ears.

I don't really like King Crimson to begin with, which is an unpopular opinion in of itself, but I do enjoy The Power to Believe and Red is okay.

Hmmm....I would eliminate 90 albums from the list before considering removing In the Court of the Crimson King. From an historical perspective, from a compositional standpoint and even for the iconic album cover, it deserves to be in a Top 100 Prog Albums.
