Bill Bruford is #1.

I must agree that Gavin Harrison should be on the list. He is amazing! One of the best out there IMHOWink

1. Terry Bozzio
2.Carl Palmer
3.Mike Portnoy
4.Bill Bruford

Collin's is just OK, nothing spectacular and Peart's time keeping can be a bit suspect.

Peart's time keeping can be a bit suspect???  I certainly wouldn't think so.

2.  Bill Bruford
3.  Billy Cobham
4.  Terry Bozzio
5.  Gavin Harrison

Collins is great! you need to listen to nursery cryme. His drumming is very advanced for his time especially in that album. I also believe his snare is one of the greatest sounding out there. Peticularly in the Late 70's early 80's. Listen to behind the lines (duke)

Collins is actually quite good in Brand X, but his stuff with Genesis was never as inventive or technically excellent as the others listed here.

Oh yeah, Billy Cobham is a beast and he will eat your soul with his four-stick technique.

and what about Lenny White? (not as good as Cobham in my opinion, but certainly a contender)
I am but a servant of the mighty Fripp, the sound of whose loins shall forever be upon the tongues of his followers.

For me, I'd have to say Cobham.  That real regid fluidity to his style makes it so great.  After him comes a tie between Bruford and Peart.

as far as more modern drummers, Jon Theodore, Danny Carey, Gavin Harrison, Damon Che and Zach Hill are all keeping the prog drumming alive and well.

I'd say Portnoy and The Professor are in contention for the top two, but then I don't have enough of an impression of the other big ones to rank them.

Also, Terry Bozzio just gave his drum set steroids when it was young. He's good, but what you tend to think is that he's got penis envy and is trying to compensate.

Peart: He has a reputation for being 'metronomic' That means keeping time perfectly.

He earned that reputation by..keeing time perfectly.

I've heard some boots where he sounds a beat or two ahead of Geddy Lee! He also looks very wooden when playing. Not a natural drummer IMO!
