I've voted for Black Sabbath because I love Iommi's guitar so much (and he's left handed... so am I). But really, this was a really hard poll. The Deep Purple were my first love in rock music

LONG THE LIVE THE REAL HEAVY METAL:

AC/DC, Motorhead, Motley Crue, Krokus, Accept, Saxon, Deep Purple, Poison, Judas Priest, Tank, Riot, Y&T, Iron Maiden, Alice Cooper, Styx, Raven, Black Sabbath, WASP, Warrant, Blackfoot, Uriah Heep, Whitesnake, Rush, Triumph, Armageddon, Def Leppard, Witchfynder General, Foghat, Scorpions, Helix

Forget about the thrash/power/death/prog/hardcore/gothic/blackmetal stuff that followed.

Thats just all been one big detour that HM should never have taken

Dude you're out! They already denied you much stuff of what you said...

Scorpion really sucks... Whitesnake 'metal' era is really popish in a way... Black Sabbath is a completly hard rock band being one of the loudest from 70's together with DP... Styx?.... Ac/Dc again you're saying they're HM oh come on! They're not even a loud band only perhaps in Fly on the Wall....

Definitely Deep Purple, Sabbath was great, but there is so much more energy in Deep Purple, and Lord's Hammond playing just sounds so mean.

Deep Purple, at least the mk2 lineup were the better musicians except Ian Paice, who while a good drummer isn't quite on the same level as Bill Ward (who's my fav drummer of all time). Sabbath, however, have more good albums than Purple, so I vote for them.

As for influence, they're about equals.
