My bet is that the "new" drummer will be one Mike Portnoy. LOL

What about the girl from the White Stripes???

It's been a while since I hope LaBrie was the 1st one to leave...

Some new news for those who have yet to see this

Taken from the Official Dream Theater Website:

"For Immediate Release
April 18, 2011

An Exclusive Look into The Band's Search for a New Drummer

New York, NY: A little more than a month after original drummer Mike Portnoy's sudden departure from Dream Theater, the band held three days of auditions in New York City. Over an amazing and productive three-day period, the band played, jammed and spoke candidly with seven of the world's greatest drummers, learning about them musically, personally and professionally, and assessing the fit of each drummer's incredible chops with the band's trademark prog-rock sound.

Dream Theater have been extremely sensitive to the fact that this is not only a monumental decision in their own lives, but also a critical moment in the lives of DT fans around the world. "The departure of our lifelong bandmate and friend was an unexpected and truly heartbreaking blow," says guitarist John Petrucci. "The fact that as a result of that event we'd be introduced to seven infinitely capable and uniquely talented drummers was heartening."

Dream Theater would like to share with its fans some of the intense process, along with the musical joy, that went into choosing a new drummer. Who is the best fit behind the kit?

Go to Dream Theater's Facebook page on Thursday, 4/21 at 11 AM to sign up for the mailing list and to receive more details about an exclusive and intimate look at the auditions, and to find out exactly when and how the momentous announcement about the band's new lineup will be made. Also on Facebook, fans will be able to find out information about the band's upcoming 2011 World Tour.

For more information regarding DREAM THEATER, please contact Amy Sciarretto in the Roadrunner Records Publicity Department, [email protected], 212.274.7500."

We already have a thread for this subject.

I don't understand why they're being so coy about saying the name when they're already chosen.

The record company not allowing them is part of the reason.

So is it Mike Mangini as rumoured?

Seems a reasonable choice to me and it will spark a revival in their music back to the Octavarium days - Mind you Black Clouds was a pretty decent album by any standards.

The problem with tourning too high the expectative is that they may let down too many fans in the project... I really hope they won't be doing something like "and finally, the new drummer is Mike Portnoy..." I'm really afraid about some cr*p like that... but well... Confused
Change the program inside... Stay in silence is a crime.

Agree. Black Clouds is staying still tall in my rank. I love A Nightmare to Remember... it's really one of the best tracks of all DT discography.

Does anyone else sense a bit of back-peddling on the part of the remaining DT members in some of these posts....??
"The departure of our lifelong bandmate and friend was an unexpected and truly heartbreaking blow," says guitarist John Petrucci.
If you believe MP posts, he had been bugging them for months to take a break or he would leave.

The dust has settled now so, boys just kiss, hug and make up!

That is the only news I would enjoy seeing......any other announcement is gonna feel like a dry hump.

It's not Portnoy. I'm 100% sure of that. I'm guessing Mangini. I would definitely like that.

Actually in interviews with LaBrie, Petrucci, and Rudess, they all pretty much said that in the months leading up to Portnoy's departure, that he was acting the same as he always was, and that there was no hint to MP wanting to take a break.

MP said it had been in his head since about a year before he left (so not long after BC&SL came out), but he didn't say anything until that day in August when the topic of a hiatus was brought up in a DT meeting in NYC.

Octavarium is bloody awful. So I hope you are wrong. I don't want them to go "back" to any days.

I think yes, we don't want them to go "back" in any sense... The have to progress and evolve, but then, Octavarium is a great album, though not one of their best, but it's really a wonderful album for any prog metal lover.. I think...

Octavarium is really cool, there is a good atmosphere, and the title track is one of their best. I'd rank it 6th out of their ten albums. It stands alone in their discography, kind of like Awake does.
