Hi, By the time I finally got here, I had been at it for almost 30 years, and I did not need PA to tell me what great music was, since I really thought this was just a popularity site and not a music site per se! ALL threads and Bulletin Boards since the Fido days, were about "fans" and many times a place for folks to trash the music not to mention get enough Viagra adds to make you sick! A music dedicated site discusses the music, not put up with jerk off comments that tend to take the flavor out of the discussions and the wind out of the sails of many posts. I, personally, have no issue with the folks that disagree, but a one word comment, many of which are more repugnant and only show the colors of that person, not to mention anything else ... a knowledgeable and intelligent person would explain his disagreement and not have to spend his/her time insulting anyone ... that is what "discussion" and "debate" is all about. But these folks don't get it! PA ended up being very good at adding a lot of artists, most of which, probably only 5% of the folks ever spend time listening to it, and this tends to help improve the standard and the ability of the "progressive music" movement ... something that the rest of the percent of folks do not seem to care about as long as they can spew another comment about their favorite song or album! When you are a "musicologist" (I have no other word for it), your listening habits change ... you lose the "favorite", because you fast realize so many differences and so many touches, and so much beauty, that choosing one over the other is like denying the rest of the music ... and I wish that PA would put together a place for serious discussion, and delete any/all comments that did not show respect or agreement/disagreement in one word, or stupid comment. Fun is one thing, but ignoring the topic with the idea of spitting on it, is another. And PA, while grand in many ways, fails in this area and will not take action to stop what could be considered a lack of education (maybe, just maybe!!!) and other reasons that are far more weird and far fetched than we care to admit ... it's now the home of "_rump'isms" by many of its members, instead of proper answers and no Admin has the time and ability to say something and place many of those folks on notice. We all need to help the artists ... not waste their time. Take a hit from Space Pirate Radio and how many folks are sending in material because the man plays the stuff, and allows it to live, and those folks appreciate the time ... and many have done some far out ID's for the show ... not to mention that some have been aware of the show for more than 40 years ... and even folks like EF and TD, were aware of it! And KS knows that there is only one person in the world that has played almost all of his music IN ITS ENTIRETY, not just a sample as I have heard in almost any show ... hearing just 5 minutes of MIRAGE is not only an insult, but a total dis-respect to the artist ... it's something that PA will never have because someone that has no respect will immediately say something rude to a comment SW made on the site (he would never consider it ... not worth his time!) ... and as the artist, I would say ... it's OK I don't need you!

Simple. I wish for the artists to have good health, enjoy life, and not worry about the fans.
Bob Fripp is doing wonderfully at this with his lovely Sunday vignettes with his wife Toyah! Is it high art or ground breaking prog? Nah. Do I care? Nope. |

Hi, You know ... after dinner, I lay down and was going to take a nap ... when PRESTO CHANGO WOW ... I had a nice visual of a KING CRIMSON concert, and all of a sudden out of nowhere, here comes Toya and Fripp does his thing ... and then ... just as fast back to the KC program. I laughed so hard I was crying and coughing! I would probably give it a standing ovation! For one of the greatest moments in my concert history ... sadly, it was in my dream-show ... not as real ... but I think that RF showing his fun side with his wife, is really neat ... and it might loosen him up on stage, but his concentration to ensure he doesn't make a mistake is so strong, that I'm positive that you and I would rather he was able to play it right ... after all he is not getting younger, and chances are that soon enough his hands won't be able to sustain the playing level as much as he can right now.

Very funny visuals, thanks!! I believe that we fans should just hold back and let our artists do what they wish. They are not like trained circus monkeys, dancing for our pleasure....the sophistication of music that we love is quite draining to compose, play and record (not to mention tour with), which is why so few are able to accomplish the feat. Having known Mr Fripp for quite a few years, I can agree with your assessment that he is most serious with his music, particularly onstage! He seeks a level of perfection and sophistication in his music that is above nearly all of his peers, so I doubt if Toyah will be appearing onstage anytime soon (and I'm fairly certain that she may have suggested it!). Therefore, I want from our artists what makes them happiest. I don't care if it is organic food, or beach vacations, or extreme solitude....whatever it takes for them to produce music that they love, we will most likely love it as well. |

Honestly, I started using DuckDuckGo after Mr. Robert Fripp told the viewers about it in one of these latest videos. Happy about it (and the videos, of course). In the same video (if I'm not wrong), he briefly spoke about his reputation of being a "cold, heartless" person. These videos are indeed amazing.

Hi, Agreed, however, many times what we think and often expect, is not the norm ... and surprises are always a cool thing. I have a feeling that she might find his "group" way too tight, to be fun for her ... but it would be a treat. I don't think that a KC show needs any "action" or "excitement", but if anything, Toyah would provide a quick laugh and fun ... and that might end up being something that fans actually enjoy. Although I kinda think that her travelling on the circus bandwagon, might be the reason why she would NOT want to do it ... just not exciting.

Starw man argument. The OP is not assuming the artist needs to consider fan's demands but rather a fan, when setting out to consume music, what should his expectation be. Just as The artist "has the right to do as they please" so too, fans also have the right to set their preferences as they please. However, in an effort to refine our tastes, it is worth critically examining what we are claiming to want...

Hi, WHICH YOU SHOULD GO DO IT YOURSELF ... not demand someone else do it for you! AND, that is the difference ... one is an artist and the other is NOT, because he/she is too lazy to go learn the instrument and create something for themselves. |

Im not asking anyone to do it for me. I am an engaging with the OP about how to go about doing that. We are using the forum to pick the brains of the community so we can come to a better understanding...

Talent. Originality. Defiance. A combination of a lot of things, but my ears will determine that when I come across a new song. I heard someone once say "Oh, the producer made us use auto-tune".. My first thoughts were they probably couldn't sing in tune, and didn't have the guts to do their thing. I think it would be better to be out of tune than to take the human element. What I can't stand is all the non-music stuff. People selling records because someone made a comment on "social" media, or some other trivial thing (gossip) to gain attention so that gimmick is used to sell products. Be true to yourself. One thing I can't stand is self-censorship when it comes to lyrics, just going with the wind is the opposite of an artist.
