I am the best drummer in prog
I am but a servant of the mighty Fripp, the sound of whose loins shall forever be upon the tongues of his followers.

ahhh yes, Cutler is absolutely amazing!  Probably the most organically inventive of any drummer; he's very underrated

Exactly, it's that organic flow that I love so much.  He plays in all of the bizarre time signatures that RIO bands love so much, but does so in such a flowing way.  If you just heard the drums, you'd never guess that he was playing in 19/8 or any of those insane signatures.  The beauty of his playing is that he plays by feel in a genre that too often tends to be played by count.

Hi there.

I haven't logged in so long I forgot both the username and the password. Anyway, this is my new name.

Best Drummer for me has always been Bill Bruford, ever since I heard his polyrhythmic drumming in Yes' Heart of Sunrise and all Close to the Edge album.

For Portnoy, his work with Morse is by far better than that found in his band. I guess he's a real good drummer but needs some directions. Otherwise, his fills are way too much at times.

Did anyone say Danny Carey from Tools? I think Danny Carey' s drumming is marvelous, but it outshines other elements in the band - so I don't really like him that much.

Just my opinion anyway.

Collin's is just OK, nothing spectacular and Peart's time keeping can be a bit suspect.

What do you mean Peart's time keeping can be a bit suspect? Perat is one of the best time keeping drummers ever dude!!!

I used to sub to the ELP list years ago, and it was always Carl whose timekeeping was in question (certainly not Neil's!). Personally, I don't mind if things aren't always dead-on, the music retains a human element that way.

Without a doubt Bill Bruford is the best. No drummer I can think of is as dynamic in the way he plays different styles and creates orignal styles, and no one is as fun to listen to as he.

Too many people say hes "too jazzy", while jazz drumming is definitely a lot more difficult to play than rock or metal.

Second might have to be Mike Portnoy, because of his speed and accuracy (or neal Peart, for the same reasons).

John Bonham also deserves recognition.

Anybody who complains that Bruford is too jazzy needs to stop being such a Rush or Dream Theater fanboy and BLAST THE KRIMSO!

This is going to make me look like a dork, I know. I've always considered Neal Peart the best drummer as far as technical skill and musicianship. But I keep listening to one guy who sounds just as good to me, and his name hasn't been mentioned here yet.

Ian Mosley of Marillion!   Am I crazy or is he the most underrated drummer in music?
