Fish sounds more like Peter Hammill than he does Peter Gabriel on those first few Marillion albums (I've never really made the Gabriel connection)

That's a great album, I'm always happy to see a bit of praise for it! After so many modern Hogarth-led Marillion albums that have very mumbly rambling vocal passages, `Holidays in Eden' is a bit of a godsend, such a focused and punchy rock album. The poppier tracks are simply great catchy tunes too. |

Steven Wilson, Haken and nu prog in general are vastly overrated, and bands like Mastodon, Meshuggah, Periphery or Tool aren't prog at all.

- When Dream And Day Unite is my 3rd favorite Dream Theater album (in fact all 3 Kevin Moore ones are at the top of my list).
- Grace Under Pressure is my favorite Rush album. - Drama is my favorite Yes album. - Though 70's Genesis is more consistent album-wise, "Mama" and "Land Of Confusion" are among my favorite Genesis tracks. - I don't get Soft Machine. - Renaissance has one good song ("Vultures Fly High"). Everything else is boring as hell. - Wish You Were Here is an overrated album (Animals is far better). - Season's End would be the best Marillion album if "The Bell In The Sea" was in the official track-listing. - Periphery needs a better singer. - Arena's never had a decent vocalist. - Aside from "Cirkus," Lizard is an awful King Crimson album. - Three Friends is the best Gentle Giant album. - Hand. Cannot. Erase. is a disappointing snooze-fest marred by flaccid production. Raven & Grace For Drowning were far better. Edited by The Ghost - May 17 2016 at 15:51 |

If Steve Vai and Buckethead are prog related then Joe Satriani might be too.

^ Maybe for something like Time Machine. Satch would be a somewhat harder sell as he's known largely as a pop instrumentalist.

I like RPI, but i don't find "Le Orme" as "the big thing". The albums start really well, but then, they become boring... Btw, "Banco" is my favourite along with "Buon Vecchio Charlie".

The best I can do is I think Rush made at least 6 albums better than "Moving Pictures".

I also don't get the great love for "Le Orme" (nor the frequent comparisons with ELP, for that matter)... also sound kind of boring (I also love "Banco", I guess they might just as well be my favourite one as well). However, I do love the album "Felona & Sorona" from Le Orme. |

Flaming Lips are a prog band. I don't understand why they're not here in PA, but Mercury Rev and Bjork are.

Using "Roundabout" for the end credits of early JoJo's Bizarre Adventure episodes is genius, and the English subs for it are awful for b*****dizing names later characters.
Io Sono Murple is sonically more hilarious than Pokey the Penguin. |

*are awful for misconstruing the names of later characters.
Emergency & I is one of the best prog albums of all time, as well as the only one that perfectly encapsulates 90's Magic Eye VHSs. |

Prog related used to be a sub that stood for 'sounds-kinda-proggy' and A LOT of bands got in - bands that should never have gotten in. Problem is the only one who can erase artists from the database is Max (our Lord and saviour). Personally I'd rather get rid of prog related and proto prog altogether. All they do is to muddy up the waters. |

Jon Anderson's vocals do next to nothing for me. Flat, lacking in expression and dynamics, compounded by a near vibrato less tone. I don't find my opinion unusual based on the yardsticks by which I judge singers but on the other hand his vocals seem to enjoy sort of a canonical status in the prog world.

^You're not alone there.
I do enjoy Yes but Jon's vocals are usually what makes me go 'feck it...enough is enough!' and then reach for something with a little more....erm..balls. He is great on Lizard as Prince Rubert, but then again he doesn't outstay his welcome. |
