If Queen is not prog, then ALL prog-power bands as Magnitude 9,Nightwish,Mechanical Poet etc. is Not prog TOO.Are Helloween,Iron Maiden or Judas Priest proggy guys? Are Sigur Ros,Mars Volta or Radiohead (what a crap!) proggy guys? Are all these experimental avantgarde(zeuhl, kraut,RIO) bands prog TOO?Genesis is PROG.IQ is Prog.Early Marillion is Prog. Are early attempts of Beatles,Nice or Moody Blues so Proggish?Maybe, it is just pschycedelia?I don't know excatly what to think. For me Nolan's Shadowland is much more proggy than all Weather Report-like bands set together

Everyone knows that I am a huge Queen fan, and I fought to get them on this site, but even I have to agree with chopper. Queen is not more progressive than YES......and that people is coming from ProgLover...the resident pompous asshole.....just ask NetsNJFan.

I basically define prog as a succesfully seamless blend of jazz, classical, and rock elements, and the only limits are the artist's own pretensions (coughRickWakemancough). It's almost impossible for a person to decide what is prog and what isn't. If it's musical complexity or being able to create impressive concept albums, bands like The Who, The Beatles, and The Flaming Lips would all be considered prog. But then again, that's just my opinion.
By the way, I'm a Wakeman fan.

Putting an artist or band in any sort of genre or sub-genre seems to create some sort of paradox, which everyone feels he or she has to critique.

Okay, this was a setup to get us all talkin about Queen again.
I'm taking a new stance. Queen is and is not prog.
There. I have said it. Anyone taking issue with this
unarguable statement needs to go put a Queen album on and then turn it
off.
