Topic: Does Neo Prog sound cheesy to you? Posted: November 05 2014 at 09:46 |
OK. I didn't want to combine the two polls but I was also curious about neo prog.

Just like any other genre, some older Neo is awful but most of the recent stuff especially is truly stellar. The obvious Collins-era Genesis impacted a great many and were thus influenced, to the point of copying. This is a tired tirade that somehow is still alive. I can list 50 amazing neo albums and two dozen that suck. Would it not be the same for other styles?

I'm curious as to which ones you consider "truly stellar." Could you please list a few?

Two options: 1- go to the home page and on top click on Neo-prog . The list of 4+ albums is extensive. 2- go to my page and check all the 5 star reviews of neo-prog albums.
There are too many winners but a few stinkers. The bad ones can be listed easily.....

Hey if you don't like it no one is forcing you to vote let alone make unnecessary comments that don't add to the discussion.

Well I was just asking for your personal opinion. You mean you cant list three to five albums you consider stellar for not just me but for others to see as well?

Most of it, mainly because it can sound like bad Genesis-wannabe bands. It's rarely got any grit or experimentality to it, compared to 70s stuff, and doesn't punch through. Marillion just about makes it through on a couple of albums, and The Road Of Bones has some great moments, but it's pretty underwhelming... Prog Metal's worse though

Negative? Well I'm just asking for people's opinion. It's funny and ironic that you are accusing me of being negative though. Is it your plan to fight my negativity with your own?

They typically would be considered that yes.

I thought that Contagion by Arena (my first exposure to the band) had some cheesy lyrics but over time I grew to appreciate them and the music much more so it's easily overlooked now. But yeah, I laughed when I saw this poll first thing on the forums

Marillion is pretty much the ne plus ultra of neo-prog.

I only started these polls because I was curious what people really thought about this topic since I have often heard people say in the past that neo prog and prog metal sounded cheesy(especially neo prog). I just wanted to see if people still felt that way. I want to thank most of you for participating and offering your feedback.
