I have a feeling that Ian Anderson and IQ will get a lot of hits for this post, and everyone should have the new Floyd by the end of this week. Please list the best  prog album of 2014. And please just pick one album I.E., the best one of the year!

That's a difficult question. I would probably choose a RPI album, it's being a great year for the genre Ermm
I'll come back later.

To the surprise of absolutely no one it's Kayo Dot- Coffins On Io.

That said, Pain of Salvation and Fen have new albums out in the next few weeks so it might change.

Would Haken's Restoration count as an album? Listening to that now, and I'm really impressed... Also with the acoustic PoS album and Corvus Stone. Catching up fast this week, haha.

Oh, and I was not very much impressed by Pink Floyd. Floyd as we know it from the last two albums (not surprisingly, given the source of material)...

I think no one was expecting this album to be impressive.

True, but there's a difference between an impressive album and a listener being impressed.

I haven't heard many of the ones on the PA list page here but for me IQ Road of Bones is certainly my favorite so far.

I had no intention of getting that Floyd album until I started reading about the music itself and yes I will be getting this. I haven't heard a lot from this year but over the last few months have picked up several, I just haven't got to them yet. Funny, I was in a Pet Store getting some dog and cat food when I got talking to the guy behind the counter and he mentioned his cat Malcom and I said "Are you an AC/DC fan?" and he said "Yes, that where the name came from but my favourite band is Pink Floyd." I have to say that this guy impressed me with his knowledge of PF and so I said "You should check out some German bands like Amon Duul II" and he says "Yes I know them along with Tangerine Dream and Kraftwerk". I mentioned TD's first album and the pre-Kraftwerk band Organisation and he knew both albums well. It was just a cool meeting where I could have stayed and talked for an hour except he was working and his boss came out just before I left not looking impressed.

Iamthemorning - Belighted, but there's been tons of great albums this year (e.g. IQ, Swans, Transatlantic, Perfect Beings, Opeth, Logos). Hope next year's as good
