Topic: Rd 1 Portland Bracket: Camel v. Diablo Swing Orch Posted: November 30 2014 at 08:44
From the symphonic conference we have one of the ..umm.. popular groups of the 70's who remain popular for never having produced a masterpiece or having any importance or influence in prog rock, and having the infamy of recruiting one of the great voices in all prog, then continuing to let one of the worst singers in prog continue to sing.

f**kING CAMEL!!!!!
From the experimental prog metal conference we have one of the most popular and creative bands of the new wave of progressive metal
From Sweden
DIABLO SWING ORCHESTRA!!!!
Vegas oddmakers have installed Swing Diablo as a slight 5 vote favorite but can Camel pull the upset? Hell they beat ELP last time around, the Camel army have shown they can upset nearly band with far superior talent and better music

While I actually like Camel (way better than Genesis anyway), they cannot hold a candle to DSO's creativity. They are one of those rare bands that transcend subgenre labels, and have a potentially huge crossover appeal.

I like the few classic Camels I have (s/t through Moonmadness) but a lot of their discography is pretty mixed. I love everything released by DSO, they're a bizarre clash of styles that works beautifully. I do have reservations about their latest track and the loss of Annlouice Loegdlund on vocals. I await with trepidation.
DSO.

no contest here. I do enjoy some of Camel's stuff in particular the first couple albums, but DSO is a completely different level of awesomeness and whose music is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.

I grew up with Camel, and they were my first concert in 1982 at age 13. DSO is a good sounding band, from the 2-3 songs I've heard, and I plan to add them to my collection, but Camel's legacy is a huge hump to get over for my vote.

Most or all of this is true but I love them anyway. The little I've heard of DSO is exactly the kind of whacked out and "fun" prog metal that I can't stand.

CAMEL by far. From their first album to their last. Camel is underrate band in PA (IMO) and I don't know why!! Camel have different styles in their career and their music have good potential to find more fans with different taste but this not happened. Maybe "Stationary Travelers" find more fans. I highly recommend to younger Prog Rock fans to listen to RAJAZ. I'm sure you can find amazing stuffs in this album.
