The Moody Blues have meant more to me early on, musically speaking. So I have a soft spot for them.

Moodies are very important in the history of prog but Genesis was far more consistent (even their '80s stuff is more consistent than the Moodies' '80s stuff).

Genesis may be King, as Ivan says, but the Moody Blues were my best friends growing up.  I was barely in Kindergarten when I first became fixated on "Threshold" and "Childrens".  These are probably two of my top 10 bands all time, all genres included.  I feel Genesis has the edge here so I'm going to support my old buddy and go with the Moodies.

The Moodies need the vote. Plus they got Days of Future Passed. I love several Genesis albums... none match that.

I never thought I'd vote Genesis here. Most of their discography leaves me snoozing. But I prefer their good moments to The Moody Blues' best.

The music that I love touches deeply my heart and my soul usually regardless of the band's/artist's consistence or cohesiveness issues, so Moody Blues all the way!

Everything in the world says I should be a Genesis fan but I still just don't get it.  The music's good but the singing is like nails on a chalkboard to me and Gabriel wriggling around in a flower costume does nothing for me.  Very much enjoy the Moody Blues though.

LOLEmbarrassed

nice video, great songbut honestly Ivan... if that is the best you can do for showing Genesis excitement level.

Now, I DID pick the sample I did for a reason.  While Genesis is a band devoid of much excitement they did have their moments.  One day when driving to the NC Zoo I actually was listening to a Genesis CD, yes it actually does happen occasionally, and when Get 'em by Friday came on.. I became possessed and put the pedal to the metal... and promptly flew right through a speed trap and got nailed for 80 in a 55. OuchLOL

Genesis had their exciting moments, just as Yes had their dull ones.  In general though Genesis albums just (one with glorious exception) lack real red blooded passion and excitment.  It may be prog man, but it is still music it needs to grab you man.  Trust me it is much better to have your heart caressed  then your head. Books are better than music for that anyway.
