Cynic's Focus, Atheist's two greats - Unquestionable Presence and Elements -, Gorguts' legendary Obscura, and Behold... The Arctopus's Skullgrid. Mainly the classics, then, but there's plenty to love in the genre, as stagnant as it often is.

Lots of great technical metal artists out there. I can recommend Diskord, which is a Norwegian tech/prog death metal act, with a pretty old school brutal sound but with loads of technical twists.
Some of Cadaverīs and Carbonizedīs releases are also pretty interesting if you like the old school variant of technical death metal.
Drottnar is also furiously fast played and fusion tinged technical Black metal.

Great band! I missed them when they played at ProgDay, but hope to have the opportunity to see them again. I also second Richardh's mention of Exivious. I reviewed their debut album here on PA, and gave it a resounding 5 stars.

^ I'm hoping Once More Around The Sun has some impressive chops..the artwork alone suggests a winner here, the music just has to measure up to its presentation......
