I strongly disagree. Imo, David Gilmour' s/t solo debut is a great album. A great cover design too, imo.

Best solo albums in my opinion by a Floyd member was Waters' both Amused to Death & Pro and Cons of Hitchhiking.

^ well, there are many shadows of great.
Let's assume there are 200,000 "pop/rock" master releases out there. Without delving too deeply into semantics, let's postulate that the top 1% percent can be called "better than good", which would leave us with 2,000 great albums. Are the all equally great? Heck, no. Can't be; there must be some difference between # 2 and #2,000? Like, three orders of magnitude In the US a well-qualified electrician, a HVAC mechanic, a CNC operator etc. can earn in excess of $100K/year. Which would make him/her wealthier than 99% of the world, but not nearly as wealthy as a blue chip CEO (8 figure incomes are common), never mind the likes of Warren Buffet or Saudi oil sheikhs.

Nahhh ... Rick Wright's Wet Dreams is really pretty and his second is even better, though very different with a couple of songs, that even PF was not good enough to play! They weren't rock'n'roll!
The other album that is wonderful, and so different, is the one that folks here won't listen to, because it's way too far out there and too much singing by Robert Wyatt! Nick Mason's Fictitious Sports, is a great fun album ... and a terrific listen ... but we have to remind Katy that if you're going to wear a lot of clothing for one of those sports, you have to make sure you can get your motor to start!

^Well if you're referring to Music From The Body, then you're wrong. We're quite a few members on here who really dig that record.

See - now there are two of us
If I remember correctly then Steve (HolyMoly) is a fan of it too....although I might be thinking of Geesin's solo album As He Stands.

I tried some of Wright's stuff, didn't like it. His section of Ummagumma rules, though.

It's not even the best Ron Geesin album!
"Right Through" is! The most fun of them all!
"Music from The Body" has too much Roger in it! And only "Our Song" has any social redeeming values worth listening to, that your own body can not deny! That must have been fun to record!

The first album is easy ... where there would be a Gilmour, you will find a saxophone. But you must slow down and listen to the keyboards, separatly on a really good stereo system ... that album will blow you away. The second one sounds a bit too much, but there are some really beautifully done pieces in there that even PF would never be able to do because it ain't rock'n'roll, which most of Richard's work was not either, so to speak!

My bad then. It's been a while since I last spun that and couldn't remember if Wyatt was on it or not. In my defence, you didn't specify. ....and no I've never said you had a reading problem. |
