Wire vs. The Feelies
Wire were an influential art punk band who were known for their odd song structure, their atmosphere that they harnessed with brilliant song craft.
The Feelies were the bands that inspired nerds everywhere to rock. Layering guitars and percussion, they created a unique sound that was influential especially in but not limited to American indie rock.

The Feelies all the way. Crazy Rhythms is a masterpiece, with all those jangly, varied guitars and remarkable use of alternative percussion. As the biggest influence on R.E.M., essentially the direct forebearers of alternative rock.

My vote goes again to Wire, basically because of this kind of dystopian halfways-to-futuristic vibe to their music I really like about a lot of British punk groups from this era.

I had a copy of Crazy Rhythms pass through my hands many, many years ago. Can't remember whether I liked it or not. Probably not, otherwise I would have kept it.
Wire for me please.

I should give the Feelies another try, though. I tried to get into them back when I was looking more for punky stuff, and they just failed to leave much of an impression. I might like them more now.

I listened to the Feelies' "Crazy Rhythms" (1st half) for the first time in decades today. It's really good, I like it a lot better now that I'm older and have broader tastes.
Still happy with my vote for Wire, though. I think of all the bands in this poll series, The Fall are the only band I like better than Wire.
