Public Image Ltd. vs. Pere Ubu

After the demise of the Sex Pistols, John Lydon did what any punk figure would do: start a weird post-punk band. With their album Metal Box, Public Image Ltd. is said to be a precursor to post-rock.

Pere Ubu labelled themselves "avant-garage" for their avant-garde tendencies which they infused into their garage-rock-based sound. They were eventually described as post-punk, but for a while they avoided being pigeonholed and were dubbed only with the nebulous "underground rock."

Wow. Lemme think.

I guess PiL has had the biggest impact on my life.  I respect the heck out of Pere Ubu, but they aren't as pleasant to listen to.

Pere Ubu. Dub Housing alone outweighs PiL's three great albums, just for being so awesome and diverse. And I'm saying that as an industrial person.

I only have on P.I.L. album, the compact disc, etc. one, I have a lot more Ubu albums, but I really don't care for their earlier stuff that much.
Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...
