...
I wanted to go outside
tp pick some flowers
...
a lot of folks
were crying
around a funny box
...
and these smells
were funny
...
mom gave me a doll
and told me to wait outside
...
what are they doing?
I asked
...
someone died
...
what's that?
they left us
and went away
...
where?
...
to heaven.

I watched a little
and in the window
over there
it was sunny outside
...
and I wanted to go there
...
mom let me go.

The door was slightly open
and I opened it some more
and it made a little noise
and an old lady looked at me
with an ugly face
...
but I wanted to go outside
...
so I ignored the old lady
and stepped out.

There were trees
there were birds
there were butterflies
...
and I ran with my arms open
...
weeeeeeeee ....
...
and I immediately lowered my voice
...
weeeeeeeee ....
and I fell on the ground
on the soft grass
and rolled and rolled
and I saw the birds
I saw the trees
I saw the grass
I saw the butterflies
...
and then
I stopped rolling
and watched the sky
...
all around
lots of things
flying
...
this was fun
...
As I turned
I saw some pretty flowers
and I got up
and went to gather a few
to bring them back
...
in the distance
I heard some music
...
momma said it was music
...
and it was alright
...
and as I picked the flowers
I got a few more flowers
and got closer to the house
...
I reached the door
opened it
and walked in
and gave momma the flowers
...
she smelled them
smiled a wee bit
looked at me
looked at the flowers
and then
she got up
and took the flowers
to that funny box
...
someone was almost closing it
and they stopped
and momma threw the flowers
in there
and the man finished
closing the box.

We all left that house
a minute later
and drove home
...
I could see the fields
I could see the flowers
I could see the birds
I could see the butterflies
...
in the distance
...

Quote Dear Friends,

This is a message to you we are very sorry for…

On January 20th, Tuesday afternoon, Edgar Froese suddenly and unexpectedly passed away from the effects of a pulmonary embolism in Vienna.

The sadness in our hearts is immensely.

Edgar once said: “There is no death, there is just a change of our cosmic address."

Edgar, this is a little comfort to us.

Yours,
TANGERINE DREAM TEAM

An important and innovative pioneer in music is now making music in his new "cosmic address."

Klaus Schulze has finally added his kind thoughts:

Even if we have seen us just rarely during the last 45 years - since the days of early Tangerine Dream we went separate ways musically - I still remember old pal Edgar with a friendly, yes: warm-hearted feeling. The last chance encounter was backstage at the Loreley festival during a warm summer night in 2008, where we both had performed, independently.

I also remember some amusing moments, somewhere, at some time in the eighties or nineties, when we smilingly "came to terms" that T.D. will get the America market, and I will get the European :-) Yes, Edgar had also (often a dry) humour. Or, take this, from an interview with Edgar in a German music magazine in 2007: Froese: "Mit Klaus hatte ich sicher seit über zehn Jahren keinen Kontakt mehr, aber vielleicht treffe ich ihn eines Tages im Hospiz, wo wir uns dann die Schnabeltasse an den Kopf werfen und mit unseren Pampers-Einlagen Schlitten fahren wollen." Means: "With Klaus I had no contact for more than ten years, but when we're old one day, maybe I'll meet him in a hospice, where we will throw feeding cups to our heads, and toboggan on our own diapers." Yes, Eddie could be very cheerful, sometimes. We laughed a lot.

Hi,

I think that Edgar probably had seen what happened to many "rock stars" out there, to not feel embarassed and not want the commotion for his family and friends ... or something like it.

I'm almost wondering if there was an issue with the music scene in Germany that he did not specify or the like ... but it might just be personal and nothing else. Vienna has more history, specially in music ... Germany made a point of destroying their history as much as possible and in fact, Edgar makes a comment about that in that one BBC special ... a new time, a new place, a new person with no past. Only present! (not quoted directly, but very similar). I always thought that those words were not only sensitive, but very special and quite observant.

While there is some respect by many folks in Germany, I find it weird that only Manuel Gottsching stood up almost immediately! Which ought to tell you why his music with Ash Ra Tempel and Ashra later, was so nice and valuable for me ... the ability to be HERE AND NOW with the music, regardless of what it was. No fear!

i do believe, that in the future, a cultural commission in Germany will deal with this the way they should and move him to aproper facility with the proper attitude and detail. At that time, the family won't say much anymore.

It's the end of an era ... the fame and the style, will likely fade away ... it is one of the most loyal and grand of folks and appreciation for this music, but because Edgar owned all of it, the commercial sides, like Virgin and many others, were still punishing Edgar and the band and they will never come to grips with the strength it takes to create the art that they did. This guy is a Michelangelo in music. He is a Da Vinci with his synthesizer work ... and I can only hope that the medium does not die because this is the classical music of the future that academics and universities are not exactly studying and appreciating!

Time for me to listen to Manuel and cry over it!
Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

A friend informed me that Jerome posted (via Facebook) Edgar's funeral was yesterday. Per Edgar's wishes, he was buried in an anonymous grave (there is no headstone to mark the gravesite).

I've got the VI one too, just haven't listened to it yet, Richard.

Oh, and going on sale tomorrow is the final Booster volume!

Hey, I've done a search, I (surprisngly) cannot find a Tangerine Dream Appreciation thread on the Archives, so I'll open that up so all these random TDream observations and discussions have a proper home!

Verslibre, it's strange, I sort of went the other way - I kind of withdrew from playing any TD/EF albums for the last week. I wanted the first TD album I played after to be something really special, then I just kept overthinking it and building it up in my head!

I think the very first tracks I played were two of my favorites, from one of my favorite albums, Stuntman.

"A Dali-esque Fuse" and "Detroit Snackbar Dreamer."

When that guitar comes in on "Fuse," I immediately pictured Ed up on a cloud in the sky, playing away. So haunting...

"Trauma" = Thumbs Up Haunting visuals to go with that, too.

"One Night in Space" is one of the very best tracks I've heard from post-2000 TD.

Has curious about that album, Richard! I'm way add to to an upcoming order from the TD store (the Melbourne concert triple CD set is due in the next couple of weeks).

I hope you ended up enjoying `The Castle' album.

I like it although I would put it a notch down from Finnegan's Wake on first listen. Need further listens to form a proper opinion though
