Topic: 1978: Genesis vs Yes Posted: February 04 2015 at 13:59 |
i think there has been a topic like this before, but still I'm curious which one works better for you, which one you really enjoy. Kindly give an explanation as well. :)
I'll be back with my vote and explanation.

ATTTW. I can't see anything really bad with the album or the entire Collins years (Stations was a different story). Tormato was absolute torment though.

I haven't been around long enough to vote, but if I could, I would go Tormato all day, every day. I know it was a bit of a weird time for Yes, but I really do think that album has a lot of strength and power than people give credit.

Yes for this showdown. I like 'And Then There Were Three' and I know 'Tormato' has some weak points, but I still think it's the better of the two.

It's OK. I find it absolutely stunning how I haven't found this website beforehand even though my love fror prog goes back 10 years ago. I am determined to post as many things as possible to vote. It sucks not being able to do much.

I have always preferred Genesis over Yes and this match up won't change that.

I think you have to have 40 posts and then you can vote.

And Then There Were Three is my third favorite Genesis album, so... :) behind Wind and Wuthering and A Trick of the Tail. 1975-78 was the best period for Genesis. Yes sorta stumbled here but got back up with the fantastic Drama which I like more than Duke.

Two very underrated albums among prog fans, Tormato gets my vote.

And Then There Were Three flows beautifully and not really a weak track I quite like Tormato but it falls down badly on one or two tracks.

Two massively disappointing albums (bearing in mind what had come become before them) which for me signalled the end of the classic period of prog.
For me neither album has a genuine prog classic on it - whereas their previous albums were stuffed with them.
A no-score draw.

I like Genesis '78 because they were really trying hard to keep the tradition alive after showing Hackett to the door (sure, he quit, but he saw he was under-appreciated). The Yes effort just had this cheesy element about it that proved self-defeating and nominally creative. About the only winning gimmick the Yes boys had that year was their "in the round" performances (although they ignored my San Diego).
